Bold statement

They are the same price $/watt, so don't get so excited. Apache is $2K for 685w of well backed and proven lights, and BML 333w for $1K from a guy who used to work for illumitex then ripped them off.
It might be a good 3x3 light, but I don't see it keeping up with a apache or a 1k hps in a 4x4, BML=20w/sqft , Apache=42w/sqft, 1000hps=63w/sqft

Let's not for get about the par outputs. BML says they get 2200µmols@12" when all bars are pushed together. What will it do when they are spaced out to cover a 4x4??? And are they meant to be ran at 12" or where??? and what lens angle is that measurement with? And what about the exterior coverage par readings??

EDIT:
Not that anyone could know how good an apache is since their website is probably the most lacking of any. But I own a few and a meter so can see the numbers and results in person.
Good info. I wasn't aware of the history there.

It'd be logical to assume diodes spread further from each other could reduce photonic overlap, resulting in increased electrical efficiency. However, perhaps it is the density achieved with this overlapping light that actually benefits plants most?

I would hazard a guess that it's kinda like taking a bong toke vs sipping on a vape whip. Your lungs can only absorb so much, so with the bong you end up blowing out the majority of the THC. Is this true for plant growth, or is more light in a small area always better?

I contacted them to see if the SPYDR could be done with a custom spectrum, but was pretty much told no due to the set ups they currently have being grow/startmax being limited to electrical specifications. Makes sense being the 6 bars are together in sequence with each in one solid unit.

Either way I toyed around for a while late last night looking to make the "perfect" par spectrum and was able to get up to 97cri which was veryyy close to the suns spectrum which lets admit is the best period. I also created a spectrum with 95 cri that just seemed more efficient with wattage being used. The BIG set back was like Greengenes was referring to ...PRICE... I came to the conclusion that to get the most out of a 4x4 area I would have to get at least 8 48" individual bars with 90 degree lens @77 watts a piece bringing me to 616 watts total but at a staggering $2048 before adding accessories needed for hanging and such! So maybe an awesome 95% sun spectrum custom unit would be the "bee's knees" but at a hefty cost.

Since LED info here can often be spread about on the site I think it'd be awesome if we could turn this into sort of a crowd-sourced comparison table which features the following columns:

  • manufacturer
  • models
  • wattage
  • chip quantity & manufacturer
  • spectrum
  • par
  • umol stats
  • prices
  • pros/cons
  • links to relevant journals & RIU threads
  • Best place to buy
  • Overall RIU recommendation
  • Anything I missed?

Seems like it'd be extremely helpful around here.

If you can believe what you read, some folks on the autoflower network forum and Dutch Passion blog are killing it with the GrowNorthern w/rebel modules lamps.
They are Cidly lamps with GN spec'ed Epiled chips and GN designed pulsed drivers. Those Rebel modules are 100 quid a pop though. ($165.00 us)
