I think the biggest reason, is that these lights were/are being sold as aquarium fixtures. So with that in mind, the crappy lenses would serve a purpose there at least. But still plenty of reef guys NOT running lenses either......

Even Jeff bought into lenses (at least back in Novemberish). The 2 90w ufos (not going into production) he sent me are lens-less and he suggested I put lenses on to better focus the light

15% efficiency loss is huge, then overtime light/panels degrade due to yellowing/fogging

That's a big part of what drew me to the cob/reflector lights- sans lens

I'm not dissing lens, I think they're necessary, I'm just commenting on how incredibly junky those ones look.
What Abiqua said makes sense though, if they were sold as aquarium lights, those lenses would serve some purpose there.
Still, such shitty lenses on such good diodes, that makes me a sad panda.

I'm new to indoor growing so I don't know much about lighting right now. I'm growing 8 plants under two cheap UFOs and a few 65w cfls. After this grow I plan on going real big. Any suggestions on lights that won't drain my bank account fully?

I've given up on the LEDLightPlant lights.

Fortunately, my partner did not fill out the order correctly

Whether it's intentional or not, they show a nice spectrum chip in some of the light pictures, but down the product page, it's a completely different one, no where near as good spectrums

I emailed them, but not expecting much.

Here's a toy for all you "Full Spectrum" believers out there, especially old one star hisself. It's called "Broadband Spectrum" and they only cost as much as entire panels do. $355.00 for a whopping and "super-efficient" 70mW per. Not exactly ready for prime time, but the future implications are drool worthy. At least they mount it for ya, right? ;) Actually Thor Labs makes some really great LEDs. More science based, but if ya can afford them, (UVB 365nm @ $145.00), they seem to be top notch.







Anyone know of any other "BROADBAND" Leds?

It seems like the next rip-off trend is adding IR to commercial lights. Never mind that these IRs are cheap and won't last very long. From what I am seeing, they only add one/panel. Make sure that each diode is independent and will not take down the others when it fails

What is the spectrum you are thinking of when you are talking IR?
