Led grow lights anygood ?

hi i am making by own grow box out of a cabinet and i was looking at lighting and saw these new LED grow light that at 120w are similar to a 600w hps they dnt make heat plug directly into the mains has anyone used these lights they are more expensive than
HID lights but save alot of money running them

Most people I have talked to said they like them for a small grow but there definitely not as good as HPS/MH. They also said that after flowering with just the LED, That they'll still use the LED but with a HID of some sort. If you have a realy small grow box ittl probally be all right. Im sure someone with a LED will post on this topic soon. Hope this helps you.

There are a LOT of cheap and nasty LED lights that use commercially available mass produced LEDs that were not manufactured specifically for horticulture.
Before I invested near to 300 quid on a light I would at least want to know the country of origin, make and model number so that I could visit the manufacturers web pages and find actual data about the light, as well as look for growers reviews ... specifically cannabis growers.
Yes, there are good LED lights and good yields can be had from them, but there are far more pieces of junk being advertised as not like the pieces of junk being sold online.
There are very few LEDs that are specifically made for horticulture from the design board to the finished product - most use available components and LEDs that all come from the same Chinese factories.
I am currently trialling a LED grow light made by Kessil but won't know the results for about 3 months.

I have yet to see a successful pure LED grow here on RIU. Unless you really want to do a proof of concept, go with pr oven technology.

It's interesting the number of HID and CFL grows that are well documented yet every LED grow I have seen on RIU has been a failure. Save your cash an go with HID or CFL, or both.

thx for the replies it is quite a small grow box get one or 2 plant in it maybe 3 not sure yet havent properly looked at it yet i think i might bye one at some point and post a review after ive grown something with it

I can't think of the thread off-hand, but one guy here had a downright amazing grow with strictly LEDs. Maybe a CFL or two, but I don't think so. Either way though, and as the others have said - they don't compare to an HPS/MH in the end.

Yeah there was one about 3 months ago that almost finished and he either threw in HID or CFL at the end.

The only way to grow with LED's successfully is to know that your light is what they say it is before you buy it. Cheap led's are just that, cheap led's.

thx for the reponse i have decided to try with a led grow light i have a hps light if it doesent work but im pretty sure it will have read alot of reviews from ppl useing them in general growing and read some about growing cannabis with them and i have drawn the conclusion that even though a HID lighting would properly get u a better harvest i reckon the LED grow might work out better concidering the cost of running hid lighting is quite abit anyway my next question is where do a get a good LED grow light from does anyone now of a site they could link for me thx

I started my grow in July with 300Watt led tri-band with huge disappointment along with the light mover that came with it. over a 100 of my bulbs have went out a few weeks ago and today the light mover went out. Luckily a friend of mine just sold me his 2 400watt light set-ups and along with 3 T-5 bad boys. I just called the lite co. who sold me the lights and hopefully get my money back soon. I had the utmost faith in the lights and they truly let me down. Everyone Else's grows were doing so much better then mine and my conclusion is that those lights just don't penatrate like HPS or HIDS do!
I was hoping to show everyone up and say these LED's are the shit! But no dice. Oh well I tried!

Once I get my grow started it will be pure LED. I'll have a journal documenting the whole thing. (not my first grow though. I guarantee that ones gonna suck).

You need to understand a little something about light and LED's before you go out and buy them. To get the most efficient LED grow light it needs to be a 1W 3mm LED.
as you increase the wattage for an LED, you decrease the light output. As you increase the size of the LED, you decrease the light intensity. 1W LED's are still the most efficient light ever to have been created. They're a differrent form of light that require a different way of growing. Many people have had successful grows with them with all forms of flora. They'll save you money in other areas too, like temp control, electricity bill, replacement lights, etc...
