LED-HPS comparison help

Wait, what?

Is there a LED on the market that will give me the same amount of light as a 400 watt HPS for plants in flower? I am buying soon, but figured I'd ask. I've read the threads here and can honestly say I have no idea what you're talking about :)

This is what I want to get http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GLK400GW191HPS-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B00CPDDI2C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396095267&sr=8-3&keywords=hps+grow+light+400w

If you have some LED as good for around the same price, I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

Yep if you DIY you could get the job done with about 200W. That would cost about $300 in parts and it would take a good amount of work.
(4) CXA3070 3000K $175
(4) drivers 1500mA $52
(4) heatsinks $36
misc wiring, connectors etc

That would give you 208W of dissipation at 36.6% efficient and you would never have to change the bulbs. It should yield the same as 400 HPS and better quality nugs.

Another alternative is the Onyx Grow. Cost $450, 210W of dissipation at 30% efficient. Might yield a bit less than a 400 HPS.

You know the saying, " you pay for what you get." Check out blackdogled.com. Google it as well. A guy from a different forum used them and had good success. These LEDs are no cheap amazon Chinese crap.

Next grow I want a good LED. I can't solder, I'm old and can't see very well. But I love the colors of LEDs I guess because I'm also an artist, and I want to paint them and the plants, do an artist's grow blog :)

Thanks for your help guys, appreciate it

I'm running an led that is giving my 400 a run for money the ti smartlamp probloom. But I am pulling 330 watts so it's about the same energy wise. I got it from a buddy for super cheap but I don't think it was originally but definitely keeping up with my 400.
