Led lights?

LED lights are TERRIBLE unless you spend $1000 on LED lights, you wont even come close to matching the power of HPS. They are not as reliable when it comes to flowering and cost an arm and a leg... just stick with HPS!!!!

There is a lot of controversy on this. Strong opinions on both sides. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. I just bought a 90w ufo and only yesterday got it in the grow room with 3 plants heading into the third week of flower. We'll see.

I think a year or more ago they were not so good and many of the opinions today were set in stone back then. Does a 90w ufo equal a 400w hps as some claim? No way. But I have seen them grow well all through flower, better than a lot of cfls for sure. I got mine from sunlight sheds for $200 and when he told me I could use it for 90 days and if not happy get my money back, that sold me - worth a try.

The fact is, lots of people are using these things, they aren't all idiots, and the majority of them are happy.

I have recently switched over from hps to LED and im happy. Are the claims they make about output true, not really, but they are still very effective. Make sure whatever company you buy them from gives you the exact NM they use for their LED. The correct spectrum is very important. i think the lens angle is important also for better penetration. Yes you will spend A LOT more than on hps but i have no heat, i love it. I have a 126w panel and my second should show up today. So yes like mentioned above ive spent almost $1000 to replace my $230 400w hps.

I will be getting them off eBay. I was looking at a few sellers. I'm definitely avoiding sellers from china. The price range is between 150-175 shipped. After I educate myself a little more on the nm's of led's I will then go with my gut to whom I want to order from.

LED are not economical choice at this time period. I am sure if you spend $1000 you can make a very nice grow with them, but if you're going to spend $1000, you're better off buying an entire setup with C02 ,Nutrients, CarbonFilters,Ventilation,Aircooled hoods and you won't have to worry about heat :X , but you can spend lots of money on this fancy new technology with a super premium price and when it drops 75% of its price in the next few years you will wish you waited :)

Led's have been dropping in price. A few years ago the ufo's were selling for 499.00. I can now get them for 150-175.

I was a led basher but after seeing rumpleforeskin do an led challenge & produced bud with it & even though he still prefers hps he pulled off 7z's. My needs are only 2-4 z's per indoor grow. My outdoor grow makes up for my indoor. The point for me going to led is so I can keep my electric bills low & be able start a perpetual grow. I don't sell weed so it will benefit me.

Yes i could have bought all that with the same amount of money and i would have to worry about where to put it all, meanwhile my led hardly take up any space or make any noise. I doubt ill care a couple years down the road, why would i want to wait, only people that cant afford it need to do that. It cost about as much to buy these lights as it would have cost me to buy 2oz of bud so i really dont understand the money issue.;-)

thankyou for all ur helpful replies very appreciated
I had bought 2 300watt pro panels from sunshine systems for $1800.00 when new about a year ago was told they would work on a light mover placed 6in above the canopy put in 1 600watt HPS blew the 2 300watt LEDs out of the water.:wall: sold them for $500 each the guy was going to try them stationary.Dont know how it worked out for him.

Everyone should keep in mind that led technology has improved enormously in the past year. Stories a year or more old are pretty much meaningless. Some try to act as if leds are worthless and a hoax. There are way too many people using them and getting great results for that to be true, but each to their own.

i think LEDs would make great supplemental lighting.
i have HPS's and i would love to get some LEDs on the sides or the bottoms just to see if any benefits occur.
but its not worth the money to be foolishly testing theories. at least for me.
i would get 2x750w digital ballasts instead for a couple bucks more than that LED you had in the link.

It really is that simple.

Could ya'll cite some of this?

What has really changed in this marketplace over the past year? Crappy 5mm led lights are still the bulk of what's going on... Are they really acceptable?

Nothing from SunShine systems I had 2 rows of LEDs go out on both lights they sent me the updated model same results. That was 4 months ago. Hopefully they work out for those of you who would like to try them. I might try them again when they can really compete with a 1000w MH or HPS maybe 5years or so.So now I use Sun Pulse MH I have combined 2 sets 1000W 6.4k with the 1000w 3k in 2 growzillaz on a light mover through out my current grow;-)

Lots of people don't want to bother with hps because of the heat. I don't understand why hps users find it necessary to keep commenting in led threads. We know hps is better in some ways, and horrible in others. It is an educated decision not to use them. If you don't like hps don't use it. If you don't like leds don't use them. I happen to think that leds will be the standard and hps will fall by the wayside, at least for small stealth grows. And that won't take 5 years to happen.
