The only study I've seen done comparing LEDs and Gavitas put the Gavitas on top in terms of efficiency but a slight bit over some earlier model chip on board. I think that COB's are more efficient, but not by much unless you invest a lot of cash into a low amp driven setup with a lot of LEDs.
I like the light they produce though. If the price were lower I'd probably switch over completely to LEDs. Doesn't make much economic sense though at this point.

I'd go bigger if I were you for the exhaust.
I'm running 8" in my 9.5x9.5 room. Works well enough to keep temps mostly ok in summer. Less than ideal, but manageable. Very manageable if I cut back on a light or two minus the odd really hot day.

Im thinking the same, atleast for summer time. Lights will be 3ft away from canopy so that will help a lot

I hear ya. I was thinking more for single ,to two lighters. Ive seen crazy results. Especially in DWC. Really good for those in hot humid areas where controlling temp is the biggest hurdle

i cant say much more on led as im not very educated on them, however i do know most comercial grows opt for ceramics over led as led at this point can not be placed to high above canopys to create that even coverage by overlap. but for small gardens the 200-300 watt cob lamps w/ cree 3070's or 3590's are getting better gpw than both hps and ceramics. personally im happy with the 315 watt ceramics now but plan on getting at least 1 or 2 LED's to do some testing,, the units i like are around 8hundred bucks and will cover a 3x3 area... maybe ill just wait till prices come down tho..leds are the future,,, but for large scale grows just not the now,, and for us with small grows,,well its just a hard decision to make, either way make sure you do plenty of research on whatever your looking at,, there are alot of led out there that are just plain crap...ttystikk and a few other guys here can tell you alot more than me on the efficiency of the cobs out there...

$550.00 for a sun system 315,, your way over priced!!! i paid 5hundred for the boulder lamp 315 watt lec's and wright now the sun systems are much cheaper, the sun system lec has a verticle bulb hood with a detached ballast. my boulder lamp the ballast sitts ontop the hood and bulb is horizontal ion hood,, the horizontal bulb has a better foot print than the vert run hoods.. you can get the 315 watt lec sun system for under 400 now and even less for a hydro farm lec system...

we're in Canada and with the exchange it's about right.
at today's rate, $550 CDN works out to $412.91 USD
things are more expensive here than in the US.

sorry,, i thought he wanted 550 us doolars...412.91 is about wright,, the price of ceramic lighting will drop pretty quickly making it even more interesting.. ill bet in a year youll be able to get a lamp for 300 usd.. i paid 500 a peice for 4 units,, but i love them and the first run paid them off..but i still hate when i buy somthing and after a few months i see i couldve saved big..

They are going for $800+ in Canada. There's a shop on the island that sells lots of them for that price which is retarded. Although I'm here to take your money as a business but $800 is too much for what the product it. I'd feel like I'm ripping people off if I sold it for more than $700,.

I run both the 3590 COBs from Tasty LED and Sun System 315w, both are super efficient, easily produce 1-1.5 gpw depending on strains being run, not sure which I prefer. Pricing for either is still better buying in the US, including conversion, shipping and even duty, I couldn't buy them here anywhere near the prices I paid. Sun Systems can be had for ~$410-$430 USD, there are a couple of others available for lower price but if you want a reflector the Sun Systems reflectors are the best out there for quality. There's a bare-bulb kit for $200 USD including a 315w mogul socket bulb available from advancetechlighting.com, that's the cheapest option to get into CMH but only runs on 220/240v.
