LED Pricing

Folks I've worked in the outdoor lighting market for many many years and, with my enthusiasm for growing for personal consumption growing by day (got one grow under my belt thus far), I thought it might be a good idea to talk to my suppliers about getting into the market for people who grow for personal consumption. Now I know what I want but I'm a neophyte.

I'm not advertising here an wont. Personally I think that's a bit unseemly.

That said. What would you, as growers, like to see in regards to pricing (please be realistic. granted 'free' would be awesome for all of us but the sun is 'free' LOL), lumens, color range, etc? I've had conversations over the last week with a couple of manufacturers who are interested in breaking into the market for growers and have done a bit of research but I'm a big believer in going direct to the consumer, asking them what they want, and seeing if it can be done.

Granted I'm probably not going to make much if any money on this venture but if I can help my fellow enthusiasts with my background, experience, and contacts, why the hell not? I've read tons of threads here and learned a lot. I'm pretty sure my next grow is going to be incredible based on the information I've gotten from here. So, ya, pay it forward and all

if you're going the way of led and have some knowledge in wiring and led build I'd go with selling kits for the did enthusiast and selling the qb kits that you have assembled and the cob kits there top notch from what I've seen a bit more pricey though

you could also stock some of the cheaper ones as well for cost efficiency like Apollo meizhi etc...

I have 2 Apollo's one cheap knock off and one real one night and day on them but they both work and will grow some quality herb

In terms of the thrust of your post I can only relate it to the design for my build. My flower space is 4x2 ft. and 5ft high. I think that is a typical size for many growers who don't use a tent but grow indoors.
I'm going to use Samsung F Series LED Strips that are ideal for my space and cost £42 delivered - ~ $55. They come in different K but I'm using 3000K. I veg in a different space and will be using the strip of 5000K.
The 44" strips are a perfect fit for my space. The design of them gives awesome coverage and with the use of mid-power SMD's, means I can get them real close to the top of my canopy. They are extremely efficient
Attached is the datasheet for the strips. FB24B are the ones I'm using, as are many others. Some also use the Bridgelux EB series.
Also in my sig is a tool you may find very interesting.
Hopefully this gives you an insight into what I believe is a very similar set-up to quite a few of the other guys here!

Kits are def the way to go I also personally believe. Passive cooling would be ideal as it keeps the cost down. Get ready to make plenty of them if they do what they need to do! Keep quality high as possible.

Take a look at timbergowlights or quantum boards. They are already doing what you are talking about.

Trust me brother I believe in Quality. If my pole designs won't stand up to a hurricane I'm not going to sell it LOL. Quality is key in my opinion. Finding the balance between quality and cost efficiency is key and, if you're willing to work at it and not worry too much about the almighty dollar, you'll hit that sweet spot. Damn sure I'm not going to recommend junk to my fellow enthusiasts to make a buck or two. Screw that. Real good way to get a bad reputation really fast. I'm TRULY hoping that I can help you folks that have and will help me in the future and we can all do what we love to do. Personally I can't wait to get out to my new place, get set up, and get growing again. The sense of accomplishment when you have grown and cured a crop is just so damn satisfying. Hell I don't even use it. But to see the look on my ladies face when she takes a hit and it's smooth as hell and tastes good. Ya. That's a happy day for me my friend.

I would target DIY, concentrating on replacement kits for 0.6 and 1kw HID growers. The tech is changing so fast that many are waiting until it plateaus out. Next year's COBs will be 20% brighter than this year's, so the tech increase is blistering. I have a feeling 2019's gains won't be nearly as high, so I plan on diving in during 2018. Frame kits would be nice, too, as long as they're not expensive.

Good thoughts to present to my fabricators. Thank you so much for your input and advice. In the short time this thread has been opened I've learned a lot.

That's what I love about the growing community. For the most part we're in this 'hobby' together and want to help each other out any way we can.
