LED update (I'm 7 years out of date)

I've been out of the game for some time and I'm hoping you guys can help me get caught back up. I was previously enamored with LED lights and ended up buying a Cali Light Works Solar Flare back when they were top of the line but I ended up being very disappointed in the results and the buds that I got were soft and airy.

Since I've been back and creeping I've seen a lot of people are still singing the praises of LEDs but there are a lot of new terms that I am not recognizing and I'm still a little skeptical about the whole LED thing after the Solar Flare. However, the energy and heat savings with LED are enough to keep me hoping lol.

Would anyone be able to give me a quick run down on some of the new products and companies? I'd also be interested to know what the general consensus regarding LEDs is these days since I'm basically a noob again.

What were the genetics like?

From my experience not every strain makes rock hard buds.

Honestly LEDs are over priced and hyped still. Hid is a old proven technology. Granted it's not the most efficient.

Unless you have a sheet ton of money to dump into a room full of LEDs you are probably going to have the same results.. genetics gotta be there as well.

Money really isn't an issue right now; plus I can easily buy some smaller lights to setup my veg/clone room before splurging on some larger lights for flowering.

I can't remember the breeder/seed-bank that I went through but we tried a few different strains. The main one being ak48 which I already know isn't the best performer. That's why I'm so willing to give CLW and other LEDs another try because I kind of feel like I was the problem and not the lights.

I actually decided to use HIDs when I made up my mind about growing again but the more research I do to reacquaint myself with state of the industry ive been finding myself pulled back towards LEDs. The heat/energy savings are enough to keep me paying attention, the price isn't really an issue since you end up making it back in the long run but I'm still a little wary after what happened last time.

This time around I'll be using much stronger genetics (Subcool/TGA) and I'll have much more income so I won't be cutting any corners.

Many, many options available. What I'd suggest would be to share some of the details of the space, plant count, and setup you were thinking about. The big benefit of DIY builds is being able to build the fixture to best suit your layout.

The best is Samsung strips or qb boards.I am using the tci strips and will be selling off my cob fixtures!

Yeah his videos are amazing for getting into and understanding the whys of LED's and how they work so you can make a more educated desicion and avoid BS lights that claims things like 1000 Watt output but only draws 300 watts at the wall!! freaking snake oil BS lol
