I will buy kessil when the price levels off, hopfully well under $200.

In the meantime I have experimented with generic chinese and blackstar LED panels. While I have great interest in the technology and efficiency purported by kessil I intuitively have to believe the better panels still give more bang for the buck, particularly with grows over a square meter in size. Other than that statement anything I surmise about kessil is just hypothetical until I run the them. What i will say is that the better panels of 200 W and above can produce superior buds, produce very little heat and are a viable alternative to HID for me.

The kessil advantage as outlined by their web presentations are seductive but slightly flawed. Regardless of the efficient use of electricity, specific spectra and optics the Kessils do not generate a huge vollume of photons.
On top of that the lens that allows penetration may cause burning if placed closer than 12 to 18" from the canopy. I look forward to the evolution of our light sources.
What specific panels are you talking about ?

Hey guys I have a question I just bought this 300w chinese.... led panel off this guy on craigslist I know... he said it was a gro panel pro or tried to pawn it off as one from sunshine systems anyway I knew it wasnt one but I figure he paid at least 400 bucks for it since he sent me the info but not the price. I found the actual info and supplier he got it from this is the link to the exact same model I have except my model has a 8:1 red blue ratio.... I bought thinking at least it can veg and it does pretty well doing great ..... but for flower I know it wasnt gonna much good I have a 250w mh I veg my plants under but figure hey I save some money and electricty buy buyin this unit I at least got a deal since he paid 440 and I paid 200 let me know what you guys think about this light thanks lol ...... heres the link http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/324854260-300W-grow-fixture-Quad-Band-R-B-O-W-6-1-1-1-LED-grow-lamp-wholesalers.html at least its a quad band light ..... loll if that means anything .... the leds are probably 1w crappy leds though lol...

people will probably tell you 3-4 plants..... people told me i could only grow 1-2 with my 120W LED and 208W CFL but i just kept shoving plants in there until i couldn't fit any more.... they all grow. yea, not monster yields but they grow plenty of bud for me to keep ripped everyday!

what brand name is your led light ?
i don't know.... some chinese kind i got from ebay.... it has the same spectrum info as yours does. that's why i think you will be fine. don't let my other message get ya down... i would have without a doubt paid the $220 like you did.

What is your plant to light ratio? Looks like it would be tough getting two plants under one light during flower
I aim for a SCROG which is 2 foot in diameter for each flowering light, perfectly fitted to the maximum efficient footprint of the light.
When I get my growing system running just right I will be happy with a 2 foot "disc" of colas per light - I can only smoke so much.

Is mylar or other reflective material as important with those Kessil lights since they seem to produce a narrow band of light ?

LED's work to grow very well the reason they get a bad wrap are all the companies out there selling crappy ones. If you see a LED grow light that is cheap it is a piece of crap. The key to a quality LED UFO is to make sure it has the proper light spectrum. Only buy from the companies that advertise the NM amount for each spectrum. This way you can insure that you get a quality product. I would put up a quality LED aganist all the rest any day of the week. The only thing they do that an LED won't is inflate you electric bill, produce excess heat, and scorch your plants.

yes, I have much more red than blue. but I guess the human eye cannot see red as far... when i crack the door open the blue spectrun goes across the floor and right up the wall. the red comes out of the doorway and ends a few inches out.... but there is alot more red color when shining on the plants..... just can't be seen as far. just don't get your plants to close... a good light will bleach and even burn the top of the plant from to much light intensity. I found out the hard way that i had gotten lucky by getting a good quality light for growing, i burned and bleached my buds by having it 4-5 inches away. i moved it up to 10-14 inches away. it's been there ever since.

also anyone know where you can get parts for these things if they break down especially the fans because there pc fans I know they will not last 50,000 hours so I know I might have to do some work on this unit in the future ....

im a bit too blazed to get out my slr and convert the files................. i got my blackstar 2011 series 100w....... O M F G!!!! the growth is out of this world. i wasn't expecting much of a difference but once i put that baby in there i came back to find out that my box is only 2 deg F above the ambient temp of 68. I was shocked at the lack of heat basically at all. this isnt in a huge space either. i had to add a few cfl's just for heat. im ordering my secret jardin tent and needed accessories to set up a baller grow room. i will finish off this set of ladies then im off to buy a blackstar 240 or 300 to stuff in that thing. honestly i was EXTREMELY doubtful that the growth would be comparable but its great. i cant wait to crop out change locations and start up a larger grow with new strains. plus i can use my old box to hold a mother and clones so my setup is complete.

You should read what the manufacturers say about different wavelengths. The theories have been put to the test. Concentrating on significantly beneficial bands makes for the best technology, the rest is wasted space.

I got this from an independent LED light builder in England, the guy knows his stuff:

You need 5 different leds to get plant growth equal to a standard metal halide/HPS light. As well a standard red and blue (640 Nm and 460 Nm) you need 660 Nm red to promote flowering, 430 Nm blue for the hard resinous buds (without it you get 'fluffy' buds with no weight) and warm white which provides far red out to about 800 Nm, again for flowering.

I have just ordered a 140 watt veg light and a 280 watt main light for flowering off this guy. They cost me £1200 but i am really confident they will work as he reaslly seems to know his stuff. He only uses the best quality LED's and although he wont give out who makes his LED's other than the CREE he uses he says the others are 10% brighter than CREE:)
