Budsonwheels, don't take offense, OK? You post a couple of innocent questions, then get treated harshly. ttystikk may have been a little bit cruel with his assessment. But people who have spent hours on this forum learning from others, and hours inside their grow rooms learning on their own, then hours back on the forum trying to point newbies toward better choices, can get a little bit frustrated.
To answer your questions:
1) Yes, of course people on this forum have experience with Vipar. If you'd spent a few evenings digging into it you would have found hundreds of threads and thousands of comments re: Vipar. I've read many comments about Vipar so here's my take: they're not the worst blurple panel out there, but why would a person buy one when many of us (including ttystikk) have been trying to steer newbies toward the most effective lights available to us at this point in time.
2) You don't have anything sticking out of the pots yet and you're asking about how many lbs. of bud. It's not your fault. You're curious. But it's kind of annoying. To be fair, your question was a little bit more specific. You asked for a comparison of LED to CFL. That's not quite as unanswerable as when someone gets on here with his little tiny babies and wants to know how many pounds he's gonna harvest.
So I'll try to answer your question, but not with any numbers.
Some LED panels are built with such low-end parts that they're NOT going to grow more bud than CFL's. The cheap panels have:
1) lousy spectrum, so they don't give the plants the colors they want, and
2) low-quality drivers and LEDs, so they waste your electricity, turning most of it to heat instead of light, and
3) They'll probably fail quickly, potentially leaving you in the dark halfway thru a grow. That would suck.
OK, so you don't want the absolute junk. You can buy mid-range stuff like Vipar that'll grow OK but not great. Better than CFL's? Yeah. I can't say how much better.
Or, you can spend your money one time (Timber, GrowMau5, Northern Grow Lights, etc.) and know you're buying the good stuff.
Don't let a few rough comments get to you. People will respect an honest effort from a newbie who doesn't have all the best equipment but still pulled off a successful grow. Because most of us started out with a few half-assed grows ourselves. Then we got better. So keep your chin up, be nice to your plants, and you'll be fine.
