LEDs Stripping Back the BS. Vegging 6 Clones under 22 Watts

I tell ya though after looking at the design a bit the BB bulb would be great if you can angle those heat sinks since the LEDs are mounted facing in.

BurnedOut. Your post really doesn't belong here. There are plenty of DIY diode threads doing that. This thread is about off the shelf led products; globes, & tubes.

Would you mind deleting it?

Thanks

I have been thinking about the 22w Utilitech under canopy: it looks more like 4500-5000K than 3000K- more yellow than red

Yesterday morning I decided to replace it with one of the Cree WWs

It could be my imagination, but it sure seems like there are considerably more pistils in < 20 hours of light

Pics tomorrow

Done brother. I must have misunderstood what it was about, and just got excited, my wife and I have freaks about LED's for 10 years now, gone thru mani iterations of the off shelf types. I love this thread. good post

Thanks for pulling it and for the nice comments

I went way down that DIY led road. It taught me a lot. If I had the skillz and the tools to build/trouble shoot, I would have built a couple by now

But I do know how to rewire a fixture to retrofit for led tubes, and so far, the tubes + the globes are rockin it

I have gone thru about 4 or 5 set of bulbs in the house , the first 2 or 3 sets were spot style that went into the recessed cans in my ceilings and the track lighting I put in the kitchen. right now using cree style spot lights all over, when we first did this our electric bill went down 60 to 70 per month. only have one CFL left in the kitchen and my wife wants one of these http://www.lightingquote.com/ATG-Electronics-iBright-E58i-T8-LED-Tube-HO-Version/ it's plug and play flourescent replacement for the same fixture, just have to disconnect the ballast and feed it straight 120

I was able to buy iBrights direct from ATG @ $35, minimum order $100. Pretty sure I can hook you up

Pet,I made 4 of these the other day with Cree 2700k and placed them in between my plants in my larger cabinet for under canopy supplemental lighting.
CM, why no signature link to your thread? HEY EVERYBODY, YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT WHAT CM IS DOING WITH CREE GLOBES

I have been experimenting to get tent temps down from ~ 84*s. After trying a frozen jug in the far corner, it is now front and center. Fan is within 10". Temps now just under 80*s

This morning I decided to raise the lights ~ 6". The light hitting the plants seems to blend in better, so I decided to post a couple pics

Now if I made a spread sheet this could be quickly answered. Maybe one day. Anybody have a template?

Ah, there's my diary.

I added the 4 led tubes on 6 /19-20, but flipped to 12/12 on 6/4. So for 15 days they were only under globes. As soon as I essentially doubled the lumens the plants began to fatten up

Oh yip...so day 42. (ish) Sorry i was asking about the CURRENT power used....i counted 120 watts (roughly) But you take out globes and change them all the time... so thats a guess :)

Oh, well I reread the iBright product page. I see 22w/bulb, small driver is external, let's round it down to 80w + one 3w + one 7w + one 9.5w + one 17w= ~ 117-120, so yeah

Sometimes, I completely miss something that could be significant

Case in point:

I originally bought 3 WW and one NW led tubes

If you recall one WW had ~ 8 unlit diodes in the middle. While waiting for the replacement, I added the NW, which has been there ever since.

It finally dawned on me, I'm guessing 90% WW is much better during flower than 100% NW. Swap done.

The plants definitely look more green, the color in the tent looks more yellow/red

If they seem lacking in blue, I can simply add a couple NW globes to the vanity fixture

I have been having pH issues with one of the plants. Odd as they get the exact same everything. So check your dwc rezes twice a week (or more) during flower.

It occurred to me to flush the plants, which is super easy with the net pot lids. Simply have 2 more buckets filled to the cover the roots, toss the air stones then put plant on top

While flushing, I decided to take new pics. Fresh nutes 1000ppm @ 6.0. PPMs up from ~ 850 to enhance bud swell. Will back down to ~ 800 next time (5-7 days)

Comparing trics to same clones harvested under 324w of HOT5s using UVL RedLifes + ZooMed Flurosuns+ Coral Waves, even though the total led wattage is 1/3, trics are more plentiful

Also note a dried bud pic from my HOT5 grow of the same clones. 177gm wet (including main stalk)is 24gms dry- minus the stems, so ~ 20gms. OUCH

It seems sampling this currently curing harvest makes me chatty lol

Since raising the lights 2 days ago, it occurred to me that I was still using one NW, although it was on the outside, where the flaps are mostly open

1/3 WWs was defective as new; 10 diodes in the middle were not working. The replacement has been in the box for 3 weeks. Why dumb-ass, WHY?

Anyway, I put it in place of the NW, meaning that all ~ 110w in the tent is WW.

Using my hand as a guide, it seems the sweet spot is ~ 4" below the bulbs, so I lowered them, and moved the plants & lights as far back so I could to take advantage of any reflected light.

Also hoping this will make it easier for my DIY swamp cooler to keep temps under 80 inside the 2 x 4 tent

As I recall these look similar in size and shape as their sisters did under the HOT5s. However, it seems like the led clones are way ahead tric wise, not sure about bud size though it is early, only now developing calyxes

I may make a new thread for this, but I had a brain fart and wondering whether anybody has tried insulating their tents. 4 X 8 sheets of foil backed foam are available at Lowes/HD, plus they will cut them for for you

Best part is they are totally reversible and inexpensive
