Lets give it a shot

Ok my beans arrived and I'm truly excited because this is my very first time in my life that I'm finally going to get to try real real bud. Genetic type shit. My set up is amateur. Dr60 secret jardin 2x2x5.5; lights, sun blaze 250-400w digital ballast mh/hps switchable(air cooled hood). Exhaust is a dayton 273cfm fan. Small circulating fan blowing between light and plants. Haven't decided what type of filter to get yet. My medium is ffof and its trio nutes. My seeds are fos white goblin(auto flower), auto seeds berry Ryder, auto pounder, and hijack. Cream of crops phsycofruit. The freebies are wos afghan Kush special, and UFO northern lights x big bud ( autoflower ). This will be my very first grow so its gonna be pretty tough. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I also would like to add that I have a t5 2 4bulb ho for vegging. Kinda scared to put th mh on my seedlings. You guys think that would be a good idea to use t5 for first 3 weeks then switch to hps?

... My 400w mh will be switched on at 14 days and a height around 4ft brought closer daily. Currently under cfls.

If you raise it high enough you'll be fine, if not go buy like 4 CFLs and like prosperian stated, once there at 14 days or big enough throw em under your mh.

Um.... if your starting from seed you can start them under the 400w MH.
You don't need to worry about the light being too much with seedlings.
The only time you have to worry is when you are starting clones.

I start all my seeds under a 1000w MH (many people do this).
IMHO I would use the t5 for clones and the 400w for veg and flower.

Got mine from the tude. Getting rid of bag seed grow and started auto flowers.

right i'm finishing up my bag seed then starting a scrog. Never tried autos i'll keep up with you to see how they do.
