Lets raise the morale of RIU

i'm a charitable guy. i visit the newbie section at least once when i log on. i give rep to the repless and advice to people who ask. i try to steer clear of threads with more than 5 or 6 pages of replies. because ultimately it creates conflict. there's a kind of mob mentality here and many people want to be seen as helpful but dole out wrong data. if i don't know i don't guess. it helps no one.

Without reading this thread, many newbies don't bother responding back when I take time out of my busy schedule...so fuck em'.

Plus, every single question they have can be answered by watching all 3 parts of this grow video...which many don't have the patience to sit through...which I have posted in its' entirety on several occasions here:

alright guys,

I've noticed most people don't even reply to a thread and maybe don't even look at it if the title doesn't involve something awesome like "Need help yellow leaves massive OG KUSH JILLY BEAN HYBRID 5000K WATTS SUPER GROW"

People are not giving a lot of the newer people the time of day.

I realize how frustrating it is when you have to see thread after thread posted with the same dang questions "Is this a boy?" "when do I water?". I realize people don't know how to use the search function and it's annoying.

But some of these people post with no questions, They're just showing people their first grow. Looking for some recognition and encouragement.

My point is do you know what happens to these new people that no one replies to? they leave. They go to another forum where people reply to them.

So for the past 45 minutes I have been digging through threads and replying only to newb threads that have 0 and sometimes 1 reply. I am not an expert grower, But I don't need to be. I can answer the ones I do know the answer to and in return encourage more members to stick with RIU and keep this site known for more than just a bunch of people thumbs'upping 1000k grows with gnarly strains.

Just something to think about next time you open a thread from a newb and don't reply to it even though you know the answer.

There are plenty of amazingly tasty grows on RIU for us all to slobber over. Lets just keep in mind that we have the power and responsibility to influence and guide the next generation of growers.

Best Regards,

FlightSchool
All of this would be like me saying, "boo whoooo, no1 checked out my new grow journal, sniff, sniff" and then packed up and left. Truth of the matter is, I could care less and I know that you need to have thick skin to be on this specific forum, otherwise you won't last here anyway. The search feature is not hard to use, and it was probably harder for them to actually find this forum and sign up than it is to actually use the search feature within RIU.

I try and help newb's whenever I can, but I can honestly say it gets quite annoying when all they would have really needed to do is checkout out the stickies in the "General Section." I mean seriously, the first three sections on this forum are, General, Newbie and Marijuana plant problems. If you can't find what you're looking for in those 3 sections I'm not sure you should be cultivating in the first place.

True but it takes two seconds to steer someone in the right direction. I'm not saying you have to give them answers but at least direct them to the appropriate place.

The problem is most of the time when people do direct the newbs they have such a stuck up attitude about it that it's ridiculous. Things such as "are you blind? can you not see the newbie section?"

Not everyone is computer or forum savvy. It takes two seconds to point someone in the right direction if you're already on the thread to begin with.

Jorge is the best, I have all his videos and his book. Hes right where I started, But I'm a visual learner so I get more from watching the video than reading a forum.

I understand what you're saying and when I do decide to check out the "recent activity" for people looking for help and decide to help, I am never arrogant or have an attitude. I actually never pointed them to a specific forum, I usually just give them the answer they are seeking and move on. Only point I am trying to make is that the first three sections of RIU usually tells them exactly what they are trying to figure out without even having to use the search feature. I was once new to this forum and never even came to this section for about the first year as I was studying and learning from the things that were already posted.

For instance: https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/1326-101-already-asked-questions.html <<<

I love helping out the new guys/girls if its something my brain can just spit out why not type it so they don't have to hurt theirs trying to fix it... I get irritated when someone replies 'do a search for it idiot' if you can take the time to insult the question why not answer it.. Or is it that you are performing the search right after you say it?

This is where I do my majority of good deeds for the day

I find myself helping newbs in spirts. It gets really annoying seeing the same questions over and over.

What keeps me away from reading/responding, is seeing all the ignorant answers that totally unqualified people give. If I got a nickel for every wrong, stupid suggestion I see here, I'd be rich :fire:.

I'm actually getting signed up and involved on another much more serious cannabis website to do journals, and talk growing, and keep this one as a hanging out place while online. The bs is getting too deep for serious growing info.

Sometimes the truth hurts to see. Sorry.

In my forum, I look for threads with little or no replies. If it's not spam I always answer, simply because of what you described. If they are new I welcome them.

It's sorta a trickle up theory.
New members should help new members and build up knowledge and reputation.
In time you can help members with more complex problems and them you.
Some questions I read in here I have no idea what they are talking about. Yes, I'm young to advanced questions but I look and learn.
This whole forum is based on a old search function that sucks.
I find it easier to google a question with roll it up in the search term then to use the search bar.

I'm new too - both growing and RIU. But I read (not just here), I learn. And I have more experience than it might seem for a relative newbie. So, I've tried to help in the Newbie section. Like others have said, the same questions can get annoying. The misinformation can be more than annoying. The newbies that don't want to put any effort into their own research, the "experts" that are quick to point out what is best. The controversies and endless debates and so on... sigh.

But I helped. I got reps and likes.

I also pointed out some of the misinformation. I called somebody on rushing to help when he really had no clue. He got all pissy and even started a second account to be all rude and crude to me. Another idiot told some newbie that we don't like to read around these parts, and interrupted a discussion about hydro, LED lighting, and these forums with, "just do what I said and use HID". I told him that it would be cool to stay out of threads if you're not going to read them. But he said he didn't have to read anything to comment, and that "just do what I said" is his way of talking about growing weed or something. At least he didn't tell me to molest an African American baby like JB.

So fuck that noise. Now, I mostly share my taste in music and my sarcastic wit, and I still get rep and likes for that. I still read and research, but I lay low on anything more in the grow forums.

Besides, music is good for the morale!
