Not a cross. The Celtic designs that have all those chains that never seem to end. How did those come about?

that's an eternity knot. Why are you asking these questions here? This person is a tattoo artist, not an expert on Celtic mythology, lol.

Google "celtic eternity knot" if you want to know how they came about.

So what is the tattoo etiquette for finding that right tattoo artist for your job? Is common to go to one artist with a design, get his idea and than maybe take the work he's done to another artist, have them rework it and then maybe they do it? Or is it better to choose your artist first, and stick to one person?

I just know that if I was going through the effort of making an idea for someone, it might be offensive if I drew up some designs and then they took my designs to someone else for cheaper/better skill etc. So what is the proper way to find the right person for your tattoo? For example, when someone approaches you about an idea, do they like kind of interview you first and see if you're styles are what they are looking for?

Or is that just making a big deal of the whole thing? haha

:peace:
Great question...best bet is to take your idea to some shops, look at their portfolios and talk w/ the artists...any artist worth a shit will have a portfolio of their work for you to see..

I dont start drawing until i have $ in hand, i learned the hard way. Spent 3 hours drawing for someone, they took the pic to get it tattooed by someone cheaper....LOL i still ended up tattooing him, just had to "fix" the crap his bargain basement tattooist did.

I wont touch someone if I smell alcohol....it opens the door for a lawsuit, a customer that wont stop moving or just a drunken pain in the ass.

you wont be able to get alot of detail in a small design...remember your body changes with age, as the ink settles in and your body changes you could end up with a blob of ink for a tattoo.

any decent artist knows what they can pull off, better to work with them to make your idea more "tattooable" and hold up over time.

Yes, there are different sized needles that serve different purposes.

I've been to a couple shops, when getting piercings, and I'll shoot the shit with them and I heard from a pretty good artist down here that if they drew it, you are not allowed to leave the store with it unless it's inked into your skin.

a friend of mine advised against tat partys (wouldnt go anyways) cause he said that most of the artist use cheap ink and it degrades over time

my qusetion is, is there dif. type of ink some less efective then other at staying in the skin longer, or is it that, that person had a fuck up tat artist

once when i was 18 i bought some indian ink from an art store, and it was cheap as hell, and i jagged a tat on my arm, one time when i was drunk and high this thing looked bad, but the ink was in the skin good, it was big as hell , this thing was just as great as the day i did it untill the day i had it covered (3 years) -my point is is there such thing as cheap ink

cheap as in watered down or weak as hell

yeah tattoo parties are usually a bad idea....although some shops will book a private party for a reduced rate....st someones house is asking for a disease or shitty tattoo.
Yes there are poor quality inks, some that just arent good inks, some that can be dangerous (mold, contaminants etc.) in the ink
