Lid on top of hempy?

So I am just starting my first hempy grow. I am using 3gal black
Buckets.
I have read that the the perlite can grow a algae on the surface. And that this was due to light exposure

On one I cut a 2” hole in the lid and and letting the plant stick threw.
I also put a few 1/8” holes in the lid it’s acts like a drip ring while being watered.

Anyone see a problem with puting a lid on the hempy?

not at all. i did the same but with panda film, white side up, cut to the size of the container.

i would cut a slit in it to the center so that i could remove it if needed.
maybe something to think about on your end so it could be removed if needed.

I thought about using some hydroton on the top to make the media snug up/compress a bit when I put the lid on.

think it would help with holding the plant?
I have heard that plants can pull from light dry perlite accidently?

as long as its wet, perlite is very "sticky" and hard to move around. and you always want water in the bottom up to the drain hole. i don't htink you'll have a problem

i've grown in hempys for quite a while now, and getting algae only happens if you keep the surface of the pot too wet. if you're using straight perlite, or perlite and vermiculite, you can water every day and not really worry about it, the perlite dries out so fast.
i use 70% perlite and 30% promix, and only water twice a week. i have no problems with algae.
you want to water till you get about 20% run off, to keep the res fresh, and expel used up salts, then wait till its dry at least a couple of inches down till you water again.

if you grow a huge tree, you might have to use some stakes and yoyo hangers to get it to stay up in pure perlite, i have no trouble with the 30% promix, acts a lot more like soil

Pretty much the same here. My medium is different, but it's hempy so no biggie.
