Light advice - seedlings Mars Hydro TS1000 or...

Hi,

I have a mars hydro ts1000, seedlings are 2 days old and just popping their heads out. Wanting to know if the mars hydro is going to be too strong for them - it is set to 25% power, or should I use the other LED (check the photos). Also have put the pots on top of a propagator to give them some heat along with a tiny humidifier. The humidity is now near 60 and heat at 23. I have a 12" 300mm Ram BLT Fan in there on setting one circulating the air, I'm guessing i should leave this fan on when the lights go out as well.

I have the seedlings mixed with some normal soil and a little bit Mills, (I'd need to get the info if you's need to know). I purchased some Mills - DNA Ultimate Soil With Cork 50L Bag which i have read is a bit too strong for seedlings however they seem to be going fine so far.

Just looking for some criticism and advice on this veg setup.

I'd really like to know if anyone has any experience with this mills soil, I've looked and cant find much info.

what we all saying is the best light cycle for a seedling I've got these on 18/6 from the start?

thats what I use no problems. from seeds top 2, bottom is clone.

They've popped up to say hello...one looks like it's either got light burn or nutri burn already . I'll upload photo soon.
what setting did you keep your light on for the seedlings and how long GloryB?

I leave them on full power and adjust distance. 24 for germ/seedlings. here is some info straight from MH. I just purchased another ts 1000. this is the book that came with it.

i did 24 until they came up then went to 18/6.

I use the same lights in both of my tents. The dimmer knob is always set to about 88-90% power or so, until preflowering begins. Then I crank it to 100. Hasn’t failed me yet. Growing some healthy beauties in flowering stage right now.

Here you go. Not really sure why I have to prove anything to you.

Best bet is to get a ppfd Meter, it sets your mind at ease when it comes to questioning your lighting intensity. Seedlings like 200-300 umol, veg 300-500, and bloom 600-900 with photosynthetic efficiency dropping after that.

That way you can find the sweet spot where you can get 250umol for your seedling while conserving energy when coverage isn't needed. A light can produce 200umol at 10" dimmed down to 15% and consume next to nothing, but only provide coverage equal to its physical size, or run at 100% at 36" and cover 1m². More heat into the tent, more coverage, bigger power bill, same amount of flux particles to your plant.

So I threw out the other 3 seeds as unfortunately the f*ckers never made it . Have since germinated (24thmarch) and today they are looking beautiful and healthy . Never going to veer from my normal way of germinating etc again. The 4th one is an unknown seed wasn't even going to germinate it hence its current size compare to the rest.

Whats peoples thoughts on the way these seedlings are looking? First time I've used my Mars Hydro TS1000 for seedlings as its new and I'm impressed .

I’m not sure why you did either lol I was just joshin around. Nice little setup though. I’m on my first Mars ts1000 run and 2x2 flood table currently. So far I’m not disappointed in the led for the price. The second pic of the plants looks like you might needs some nitrogen supplement as they look a bit yellow. Looks to be in flower but early stage so I’d pump more into them based off colors I see. Otherwise nice setup.

Thanks man! She was a little yellow, as I didn’t measure correctly on the nutes. Lost a few fam leaves at the bottom but she has bounced back nicely. Already producing a few buds about 6-8 inches. I cannot wait to harvest this one.

Don’t fret about a few fans it happens. I prefer hydro as it’s easy to dial in nutrient solutions to avoid that issue. Just topped these last night. Ones is fruit punch and the other OG punch. And two babies from Pineapple Express seed in the back. I wil say the OG punch doesn’t like the same humidity range as the fruit punch.

That’s awesome. Growing PE myself as well. This is only my third soil grow. Maybe next year I will graduate to hydro.

With hydro, you just have to keep the roots at a certain temp or does the same apply to the actual plant too?

Tricky growing conditions for me during certain times of the year, that’s why I ask.

I ditched soil many years ago and went to hydro. Bubble buckets specifically for a long time. Simple and easy. I ran four individual buckets with a four port air pump and 2” cylinder stones in ea bucket. I’ve never had any issues with temps on the water and it gets to 78F all the time. Now I’m on flood tables and so far so good. Hydro guard will allow higher temps on the water but in my experience over the years it’s mostly about air in the water and keeping light out rather than temps. Pump tons of air and make the bucket as light tight as possible and you won’t have any issues. If you can Keep your grow area under 80 you shouldn’t have any issues in root zones so long as light and aeration are taken care of. White food grade buckets wrapped in blue duct tape work wonderfully. The plant can take much more heat than the roots and don’t forget radiant heat isn’t the same as ambient.

Here’s my pump and what temps my waters at currently. It’s cooler today than usual but typically averages around 77F. I swing my ph from 5.5 to 6.3 consistently. Start at 5.5 and let it naturally climb over a few days or more. Checking daily. Once it’s at 6.3 ish I bring it back down. Gives wide pickup range for the plants.

Awesome info. I am coming to grips realizing that I will only be able to grow 8 months out of the year.
