light cycle

hi, this is my second indoor grow. this time around i have a little more knowledge, but still need some help. so i got some new clones from the club, the dude told me to put the on a 18/6 scheldule while there veging. i was curious if i can put the on a 16/8 scheldule, and then of couse the 12/12 for flowering. ive had these plants under the light for two days now on the 18/6. i have a 400w hps light too if that helps you any with what i should do. thank you! please give me your opions!!!

If you're doing HPS I'd just flower right away. Vegging to a foot or two is easy with a few CFLs, its less money than buying a 400W MH bulb (I'm guessing your ballast is electronic) Another option is to buy a Son Agro bulb, its a 400watt HPS that has an extra 30 watts of blue light incorporated. Its a hybrid bulb designed to run the entire life of plants. Just some options, what you have will work but vegging may take longer.

Yea 18hr light min for veg.. I did 20/4 and it worked great. Some do 24hr light. I haven't yet heard of anyone doing a 16/8...

Mike, people do 16/8 14/10 12/12 over the course of weeks when they are easing plants into flowering. If you have finicky sativas its usually a good idea, you add 1-3 weeks on flowering but plants reach better potential. Moving your light to 10/14 near the end of flowering is supposed to improve potency (light breaks down THC) but I haven't noticed a big increase.

Oh yea true.. I do that.. I thought he meant just doing straight 16/8 veg then going straight to 12/12... You at least want to start at 18/6 then work your way down a few days before changing to 12/12. Thanks for that heads up.
