Light distance from canopy

I’ve always noticed in magazines and online pictures ligts are always way high up in the air and not the 2-3 feet away from the canopy.

I run phantom DE in my bloom and standard MH 1000 in my veg room for the older plants.

I have noticed my plants suffer during the veg to bloom cycle. Its been going on a while and they’d finish off well but they start to curl and I’m thinking started when I switched over to the DEs but unfortunately didn’t journal my grows and hadn’t considered it a potential problem until recently. I’m starting to wonder if my lights are too close and/or too powerful because I run them at 1000w within 2 to 3 feet between the lamp.

Thinking of running them lower and/or bringing them into bloom as shorter plants since I have low ceilings.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be really appreciated.

From my experiance if i did not harden off my plants when going from veg to flower i would see similar results as you. I was going from a 400 watt mh in 6x6 space in veg to a 1000 watt hps in flower and the 1000 was so much brighter it stressed my plants for the first week.

Now ive upgraded to better light in veg and have not seen this agian until my led experiments. Similar results as above the led would just bleach the plant for the first week.

Try setting 1 plant outside of the coverage area slightly for a day or 2 b4 you stick it in place.

I’ve also just recently heard of hardening off plants. I don’t fully understand what it is mostly because in my space it’s not something I can do because my veg and bloom room share space with plants in other parts of its life cycle.

So maybe the 1000w Mh and start at 600w when I switch them over is?

I was saying my veg room was low watts and flower room was extreamlu higher, in your case now im not sure.

Are the gavitas that much brighter than a 1000w mh?

Well I know the spectrum is wider/more complete. Maybe the enviormental differences could be a shock. I really really need to do an air exchange between the veg and bloom room. But I usually don’t beczuse the veg room isn’t a problem as long as I don’t sit on old bulbs for too long.
