Useing 4 400 watt supper hps. With 2 600 watt viperspecs. How far away should the hps be????

is your reflecter a closed one or open? this will make a big differance,as to hoe far away you can place the light

For a 400W and 600W lamps used in a 1.0m to 1.2m square tent, start off placing the lamp and reflector at about 18″-24″ from the tops of your plants. If the temperature is above 28C in the centre of the plant canopy after half an hour, move it up. this is an open reflector, ie no heat proof glass in it

My way.....
I put my hand directly under the lamp until it gets uncomfortably hot, then I move my hand away until it's no longer "hot" only warm.
That my minimum distance.
