Light Mover 1000w VS. Two Stationary 600w

Hello guys, my first post so be gentle.

I'm starting my first grow here in about a month and I've been cultivating opinions from everyone in my friend circle who has experience and every post I can on the different options available for growing in a small space.

I'm also reading Cervantes's book, but the information is very scattered and some parts of the book don't don't necessarily square up with other parts of the book.

So here's my question:
I'm growing hydro in a closet roughly 2x8ft. There will be six plants with good spacing. Ill be doing veg and flower in closet and I'm not sure about the specifics of the lighting I'll be using.

The two options that seem to be most popular are:

a) One 1000w in an air cooled hood on light mover. This will allow greater coverage of the growing area, and will even out candle time by having periods of very low light and very intense light on each plant.

and

b) Two 600w in stationary air cooled hoods. The benefit being the lowered heat from each individual bulb, so the hoods can be lower to each plant and disperse more high intensity light.

Cervantes's book quotes:
"Light movers can increase intense light coverage by 25-35 percent." P. 191

But earlier in the book he says:
"[The light mover] is not a substitute for more lumen's from an additional light." P. 190

So I'm finding the information in the book kind on contradictory. And online there is no small amount of opinion on both sides of which is the "superior" way to do things, but often the issues stand alone and are never compared in thread.

So if someone could throw their opinion in on which would be better suited for this kind of scenario, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks.

I think 2 600w lights might be your best bet. 600w lights supposed give off more lumens per watt than the 1000w. Which means you can get them closer to the tops. Money might be an issue though. It's probably more expensive for 2 lights than for 1 light and a mover. In an ideal setup I'd opt for the 2 600 watters. :weed:

I think in your case the 2 600 watt lights would be better. If your room wasn't 2 x 8 I think the 1000 watt with a mover would be better.

I have a hortilux eye 1000 watt hps on a mover, and it works awesome. I wonder what dual 600's would be like... Please post pics when ya get her up and running,..if your taking that route. :hump:

I used to have a 2 600w set up and thought it worked pretty good. You will get better coverage for sure but w/ the mover and a 1000w you might get better density in your finished product. Just make sure to only have it move a bit in each direction as it will have the strength to reach out further. Also think about bulbs. To my knowledge 600's are only avail. in HPS, so you need the Eye Hortilux bulb like the other guy said (they cost more). If you dont care about switching bulbs get a switchable 1000 or stick w. a reg. ballast and still use the eye hortilux. You will get killer veg. results w/ metal halide. Quicker veg. = less money in the long run in regards to power. Your 2 bulbs will cost more up front but will last longer cause you switch them and generally can quicken your grow time. I use 1000w's and am at almost 3' in 2 weeks. QP per plant minimum w. a good strain..If you can get cuts from a friend you trust i'd go that route. I've seen a lot of time wasted w/ seeds these days. Just a few things to think about but the decision will be yours. Either way you'll get nice results if you love your girls.

One 600 watt and a light mover. I'd go for the 5.0 over the 3.5 Light Rail just for the more powerful/resilient motor, and the slower moving motor. Here's my 8'x3' grow cage, 600W and a light rail.

I find that marijuana grows better with a moving light source rather than a stationary one, both to get the plant from different angles (get areas normally in shadow) and to give the light receptors on the plant a rest - plants don't normally get 12 hours of direct, constant light, especially from the same source. My yield is well above 1 gram per watt with this system.

Constant light, more lumens, less shade far outweigh the effects of the light mover. I had a garden with 2 1000 watt hps aircooled right. They didn't cover the entirety of there areas. However, due to money and inferior craftmanship I was only able to use one light mover. The plants under the stationary light buds were a lot bigger and denser than those on the other area with the lightmover. Direct light is a lot better than moving light as long as you train your plants.
