Hi, I was wondering if I could get some help prepping for my light of jah grow. I recently visited a website that said for my grow room I would need a 600 watt. My grow room is 8ft X 4FT X 2.5FT. I would like to grow in fox farm soil and nutes but which type of fox farm do I need? My room is clean and has flat white walls as well. What size pots do I need? How many plants could grow under this light? How high should I put the light up? I have a regular 12" oscillating fan. Would this be sufficient to keep it cool or should I add more fans to it? What would work well for smell control as I live in an apt and do want neighbors to know? Do you know where I can get a switchable MH/HPS 600 watt for a decent price that doesn't way an insane amount?
EDIT: How many low riders could I grow under this setup and in what size pot?

Welcome to RIU. Ok lets see..
1) Soil. FF Ocean Forrest is what most people go with. Its rich in nutes and this makes it harder for new growers to use correctly. Theres enough nutes already in the soil to keep the plant healthy for 2-4wks in a lotta cases. Giving them extra nutes before will burn/kill them so you have to refrain from this. Theres also Happy Frog and Light Warrior that both have much less nutes than the ocean forrest and often times people like to do a mix of OF and 1 of the other 2. Its up to you.
2) A 600w light would be good for 6 plants. People will go with more but it will be sufficent for 6.
3) Pot size varies. The genral rule is the bigger the pot, the bigger the plant. Bigger pots give more room for the roots to search and grow resulting in a healthy root system and a big healthy plant. How big do you plan on growing these plants?? Another rule is 1gallon per 1 foot tall. So a 3ft plant=a 3gal pot etc. I would start out in a smaller one like a 2liter pot and then transplant into a 3gal or 5 gal whatever fits your grow operation.
4) Odor control is very important. There is an Odor Control Megathread here that will help you GREATLY! But there are differnet types of fragrences like ONA Gel that work good. All depends on how many plants your growing and how stinky the strain is. I dont know anything about L.Of.J so I cant help you there. Theres also things like Can Filters(carbon scrubbers that suck the air in and scrub it and send it out not smelling like dank
) These work very well and can be anywhere from 90-200+$ you can also make one yourself with the help of the thread I mentioned above. Ozone generators are another device but I wouldnt go there as they can be dangerous to humans and plants and are $$$. Make sure that you hve some type of exhaust to blow out the hot air that collects at the ceiling and then suck fresh air in towards the bottom of the room. Could be hard when living in an apartment
5) Fans are a must as plants need to breathe and the stale air needs to be moved around as well as smells moved etc. if you decide that your room needs a type of exhaust/ducting then you would need some type of inline fan to blow it out. Fans can be found in the Stickied Where to find good deals on equipment thread. This will also be your friend and theres are 100s of places to find great deals on fans, switchable ballasts MH/HPS, timers, pots odor controls etc etc etc!!!!
6) If i missed any of your ?s, I tried as I am still a greenhorn and am in the middle of my very 1st grow
Seriously though some of the threads on here are insanely informative and will become your bffs real fast! Go through the best deals one and you will find everything you are looking or and certainly things that your not but want anyway lol.
