Light Problem Please help!!!

First time grower needs questions answered about my light.
I have a 250 watt Hydrofarm Grow Light HID hanging fixture. When I plug it in, the light trys to warm up but after about 30-45 seconds it just shuts off?? This setup is brand new with a brand new bulb???

Also, it says to use a M58, 250 watt bulb.. Can I put a 400 watt bulb in this?? Sorry for the Newbie questions, Im just bummed this light wont work??

If its trying to fire up a 400 watt bulb with a 250 watt ballast it will never work. If you're using the correct bulb and its not turning on your ballast is likely faulty and should be replaced.

you can use a bigger bulb for a smaller ballast..but i read some where you can put smaller watts in bigger ballasts..never tried it though

i recommend just using the correct wattage for everything

It lights up for about 20 seconds and then just shuts off??

and im using the bulb that came with it, it is the right one for it...

I'd take it back and replace it.
