light schedule for plants going outdoors

i was wondering if anyone could tell me if their is a certain way you work the light schedule for plants going outdoors. someone told me if you start them on 18 6 or more when you put them out they may flower. he said you have to work the light schedule up with the natural hours of the sun in order not to stress the plants. i will start some mothers in the winter and i need to know how to do this. dont know if this is true or not. any help is appreciated.

I just means that you can not put your plants outside unless your light cycle is "in tune" with the light cycle outoors. You start em in winter 18 /6 and then you vegg em until outdoor cycle is more then 12h light per day. And you start syncin the timing according to your needz. You start lowering your light cycle, while outdoorz keepz addin +h to light cycle. But when you put em outside they have to be syncronized! Or you could make clones.:D 2 mothers, takes 10 clones and when they root, start them on "lower" light cycle. Say 13,14h of light....

but if i start at 18/6 and start decreasing light, wouldnt the decrease in light trigger the plant to flower like it does naturally under the sun???

i noticed for my area, on may 15, (which is my target date to transplant ) we would be receiving 14 hours and 20 min of sunlight. from 18/6 i would have to dial the lights back about 3 1/2 hours to syncronize. dont that seem a bit much.
