intermatic timers are big ones with 24 hour clock and metal tabs that you clamp onto the wheel of the clock to turn on and off then they get hardwired for power in and load out. not the easiest method for sure ... they work well if you are an electrician like myself but for the average user you should get something like this High Tech Garden Supply
you simply plug this into the wall then plug your light into the outlet on it and set the timers on / off cycle
