Lighter? No way! Herb Iron FULL REVIEW

Hey guys, im HighFlyBy. Today I am going to give you as much information about a new product, and also give you my full, honest, and non biased opinion of this product.

The other day I received a product called the Herb Iron. In a nutshell, this thing is a soldering iron thats has been completely customized, and turned into a user-friendly smoking device. It really blows my mind how much different this is compared to a Hakko, or even its close cousin the Phedor. In this review, we will be discussing the main differences between the 3, and then well get into what sets the herb iron apart from the rest.

Here is a couple shots of the packaging, and all that is included with the Herb Iron.

Now....lets get into the juicy details.

The cost? - Well, this thing isnt cheap, but at the same time, it is. The price is $69.99 USD with 6 bucks shipping anywhere in the US, 14 for international. Now you may be thinking, what the hell, thats not cheap! But it is.....if you click on my link to the Phedor, you may be shocked to see their price tag of $150, plus 20 bucks for shipping. This is a little outrageous for me, especially considering the differences between it, and a Hakko soldering Iron are minimal. The price of a Hakko soldering iron is usually around $30 +shipping. Now to get into what the difference between the 3 really are.

Things I disliked about the Phedor and Hakko - With the phedor, and the hakko, you have a soldering iron unit that pugs in, gets hot, and stays that way. Its a great way to light your herbs, but what about after your hit? With the phedor, it has a laptop-style power cord that can be unplugged, but frankly its a pain in the ass. Same thing with the hakko, but there is not pull cord. If you want to turn off the hakko, you have to get up and unplug it. The phedor is a boxy unit, which in my opinion, isnt very comfortable. The hakko has a slight edge here, but its not much better.

The Herb Iron, and what it changed - So upon opening this thing, and holding it in my hands, all I can say is WOW! They made the handle of this thing so comfortable, and you can hold it in many different ways to get the proper angle on the bowl of any piece your using. Also, no matter how you hold this thing, a finger always is resting on the POWER SWITCH!!! Wooooohooo! Man I was excited to see this. It seems like the herb Iron has resolved all issues I had with other comparable products. Lets get into some more details about the herb iron and what it does...

Warm up time from a cold start - So, within 10 seconds of pressing the power button, this thing is warmed up and ready to start lighting your herbs. I like to let it heat up for about 10 or so seconds, so the tip gets hot, and I use that for a more precise cherry on my bowl. This unit uses a ceramic heating element that is 25 watts.

Spring coil - Now this is a very innovative feature that I would have never thought of. They put a metal coil on the end, and it holds back the power cord, so it doesn't hand on your hand or anything while your trying to light your herbs. GREAT IDEA! A+++

Production - This is a truly american product. Almost every piece, even down to the H.I. lettering on the Iron itself, were made, and assembled here in America. I think this is a nice point to make ;)

Warranty - The guys behind The Herb Iron stand behind their product with the industries only lifetime warranty against defects and 1 year accidental damage warranty. This is pretty essential....who else gives you a one year ACCIDENTAL warranty? Nice. A+

The Skinny - This is the best new product I have come across. I have actually GIVEN away my Bic's, because I simpy will not use anything but the Iron now. This thing has corrected EVERY problem I had with the Phedor, and the Hakko, and thats just amazing. For less than HALF the price of the phedor with shipping, the Herb-Iron is just simply the best value for the dollar, AND the better product.

The only problem I have found....the power cable is a little short. The guys from Herb-Iron have informed me that they have upgraded the power cord to an 8ft double insulated cord. So, my only problem has been resolved....you know what that means

5 out of 5 stars with this one...im just simply blown away. Great product.

Yeah he does.

Personally I really dig this:

I got a 200ft roll of it, I've given a LOT to friends, and I still have like 25 feet left. I've been working on that 200ft spool for like 8-10 months?

I'm not trying to hijack or diss the OP's product, but beeline is $20 a spool and you can light joints and blunts with it.

I think that mauithings.com has a promo code 'iluvmaui' for 10% of (remove quotes)

My lighters last months (no joke) most of the time I just use a torch lighter to light the beeline, and a years worth of butane is like $4?

That being said I'd love to have one of those herb irons. If it's anything like a glass rod, which I assume it's EXACTLY like, then that would the the SHIT for milky bong rips. But I need to get a new bong before I get an herb iron for it :P

edit: effects I notice using beeline

No headaches
No dirty taste in the mouth (I thought that was burning plant material but it was the lighter)
Easier to breathe (I don't know if the negative ion thing is true but I have asthma and I can breath GREAT after a nice rip)

Also the flame is extremely easy to extinguish, and it doesn't burn hot at all. Dropped it on the carpet for a quick second and it didn't burn the carpet

gogrow

confused
there needs to be a nice battery powered model..... what about us guys that like to wander around the woods with our bowls?? I couldnt see me hooking an extension cord spool to my belt :)

I would imagine it would take a long time for it to heat up. And that the battery's would be drained pretty quickly...

Keep the herb iron at home and take the beeline to the woods?

it's only 25w heating system, i'd think that would be managed okay with a 9v.... I still wander around the house too much to be tied 8ft from the wall....

now the 'beeline' i just dont really understand, but it seems interesting

Its always so akward when both of the randy marshs end up right next to each other haha.

But yeah i can also vouche for beeline. Ive got like 6 inches of beeline left from about a foot or so that my friend gave me, and ive had it for a month or so. You definintly notice the difference between it and the lighter. Much cleaner taste. It also burns mad slowww and like ^ said it doesnt really burn too hot. You can easily put it out with your finger or a light shake with no problems what so ever.

But the only downside to it that ive noticed is that if it happends to randomly go out mid bong rip and you inhale the smoke it puts off, It makes the weed smoke tastes like a damn candle lol. But if that doesnt happen then its a real pleasent taste for sure.

But anyways yeah i really wish i could get myself one of these herb irons and try the bad beast out myself. I usually use a glass rod and its kinda a pain, This thing would eliminate all the trouble of that. Pretty damn smart if i do say so myself. Maybe if the guy who made it wants to throw me one for the free id be happy as hell to try it and promote the shit out of it haha.

Yoo Pussymoneyweed, did you get one of those little packages in the carbboard? Those are the thin lines for pipes and shit. You can get the thick string spool 'for waterpipes' for $2 extra on a 200ft spool.

'thick waterpipe' string from the spool on the left, 'thin pipe string' from a 3ft cardboard package on the right

looks like I could buy a cheap soldering iron and have the same thing :P
I would imagine that regular irons get wayyy to hot, like excess of 500F? maybe a lot more?

Anyway cannabinoids vaporize from like 350-400, so an iron with lower temperatures would result in smoother hits. Also the tip isnt metal its ceramic.

yeah it was a little package. My friend who gave it to me had two gauges of it but it was like medium and thin. I didnt know they made a thicker one specifically for waterpipes, Thats pretty cool. I mean shit the thin stuff burns long as hell, I cant imagine the thick shit haha.

Oh yeah. I could see that then. Find the guy that makes the irons on here and PM him? Maybe he will see this thread.

so $69 plus $14 for shipping, or about £30 for a ball of string, wtf is wrong with a regular 50p lighter?
a spool of beeline + shipping with 10% off cost me like $25. So like 17 british pounds? Look for a distributer near you if the shipping is killing you, mauithings.com is out of hawaii. If your from the UK it either has to go over Asia, or the entire US and Atlantic ocean.

If you really wanted to save money, you could coat your own hemp string in beeswax. You can get that at an arts and crafts store.

Well, I was ok with this...but what about the next two pages discussing beeline? This isnt a comparison thread between beeline and the herb Iron guys....please dont thread jack ;)

well scientifically here . . . . . the herb iron is much more efficient than the bee-line thread that you burn to cause FULL cumbustion.

herb iron is using smoldering . . . . aka cherry . . . its literally half combustion.

therefore you wont lose 50% or so of your cannabinoids to that full combustion in the flame if you use the herb iron.

the on,ly thing the bee-line does is prevent contaminants in your lighting mechanism (butane.)
