Lighting and Pot Sizes

I planted my germinated seed this morning and I am having trouble with the lighting process. I've read a few different forum posts but I'm still unsure about what to do.

This is just for personal use and so far all I'm using is a cut gatorade bottle(at the top of the widest part), lots of bottles water, and the good old fashion sun and windowsill.

And another question as well, since my plant is for personal use (and under my growing conditions), what is the smallest sized pot I can use to get a healthy stress free plant but still be able to keep it in my room?

I know about the whole 1gal=1ft concept, I just want to have a nice sized plant to have enough of a yield to smoke a little before I got to bed and to wake and bake :)

Its completely up to you.

The longer it grows the more room it needs, it is a weed and will grow quick under the right conditions.

You might be able to control the size of the roots by doing a hydroponics basket and dipping the plant in a strong bath several times a day. This would require you to be there 24/7 and would not be easy or ideal.

Since you don't have much else going for you but the pot. I would invest in a decent aeration pot from 3-8 gallons and get good airy soil. We're talking $20 at the most.

What do you think the hours of lighting should be?

Well June 26th was the longest day of the year so its getting shorter and shorter now. The next equinox is September 25th so you have almost 2 months to veg.

Give them as much exposure as you can for now they are going to flower soon due to you using the natural flowering season.

keep it at least at 16 hours light on. But 18 would be ideal. If your just keepin her indoors. So, when the sun is dimmed turn the lights on. when you feel the size of the plant is ideal.....just use the suns hours. by about mid august you should have just the right (time) amount of sun out to just let het kick in to flower mode! good luck! and Welcome To RIU!

I swore OP said he was going to set it on the window for lighting... Man I must be high..

Well, you said you know the whole 1 gallon per foot concept, and that is kinda true. If size is an issue consider 5 gallon grow bags. They have a lot less foot print (only 8" x 9") versus 5 gallon nursery pots (12" diameter). They are a bit taller, so bear that in mind if height is a consideration.
