Lighting Question - Moving girls from room to room.....

So I have some girls 3 weeks into flower in my tent with 1000w hps, 12/12.

I have some clones in a makeshift tent on a work bench and haven't the loot to get a new tent and a MH as of yet. SO....

Can I stick my clones, once potted, into the tent with the flowering girls for the 12 hours then stick them back under the weak ass hyrdofarm 2ft 4 tube for the remaning 6 hours. Let them sleep for 6 hours then back into the flowering tent, rinse and repeat?!?

It would go something like this-

Lights on at 10pm, I leave for work at 830 am - 10.5 hours of 1000w's

Stick them under T5's for 7.5 hours, til' 4pm, make timer shut off T5's and then back into flower tent at 10pm for 10.5 hours of 1000w goodness.

this thing http://www.hydrofarm.com/pb_detail.php?itemid=10658

I mean I know this light isn't enough for veg, but would it suffice for the time they aren't sharing the 1000w with the flowering ladies?

I ofcourse will be getting a 2x2x6 cloning/veg tent at some point, but til then I'm outta luck. I either wait for the flower girls to be done THEN start to veg or work it out somehow. I mean it won't be under good light but not in dark either so they won't flower early on me.

Bring on the flaming and the constructive replies! :)

sure you could do that

not that i know what you are transplanting into for your vegging stuff... but i was just assuming they were bigger pots since you were worried about the space... and forgive me if i waste your time here haha!

there's enough room under that 2ft 4 tuber for all your pots (which there should be)... clones should be transplanted to small pots (around a 1/2 gallon is perfect... no bigger than 3/4 gallon though)so you can get them a good healthy root system in a small area quickly. i actually put mine first in a, forgive me for the phrase, "keg cup" and let them ball up in there (generally only takes 8-10 days) then i move them to the 1/2-3/4 gal for 2-3 weeks, they bound up nicely :)... then when you're ready to transplant to the 2, 3, or 5 gal for flowering they're gonna have a nice healthy root ball. also small pots early make watering much more effective for them... transplanting clones into big pots of soil to me is senseless because they simply cannot suck the water out of them fast enough because they're not accumulating any MASS... so they just sit saturated which will lead to root rot from wet soil for a week. if they are in a smaller pot the roots will form the healthy "ball" you need to achieve before transplanting to a bigger pot because it will dry out more frequently and give your roots the air they need. this will ensure you have a healthy plant ready for transplant and fast rapid root growth for that matter

so if you DONT want to run around like a mad man shuffling plants from room to room... your 4 tube t5 should be plenty room enough to veg out a half donzen little girls for 2-3 weeks and with the lights on 24/7 they will keep on a growin, and keep the lights very close (practically on them if its not to warm) for maximum lumen availability... i only use two 2bulb x 4ft t8's to veg my girls up on 24/7 cycle it works great and it's less on the hydro bill than a MH lamp. unless you need to raise them up really big really fast go for the MH you want ... but a good bank of 4-6 bank of 4ft t-5 fluoros works great for veg a smaller number of plants (12 or less)

I'll be doing like you and sticking them into those red "keg cups" for a bit. You say 8-10 days....last time I made the noob mistake of leaving them in there for like 3 weeks, but that was from seed. I digress though.

I'll be vegging 9 lil' darlings and you are saying that I should be ok to do so under the t5?!?!? I know I could but is that really gonna make them nice and full like I've come to expect veg'n under a 600/1000 hps? The plan is to get another tent and veg/clone in there with a MH. I wonder how many of the 2ft 4tube HO t5's I'd need to equal a 600w mh? I assume it would be cheaper and cooler that way. Hmmm

I dont have any mid-sized pots so they'll be going from red keg cups into the 3l airpots. It seemed to work ok this last time. You think though that if I slowly increase the pot size its a benefit? A noticeable one?

Good stuff to think about, thanks for the input!

i only veg under fluuoros lights on 24/7 :).... why spend all that money in electricity?? They work fine IMO just make sure you have 4-6 bulbs and you'll be fine

yeah make sure you get them girls outta the keg cups after 10 days or so... if you want to.. leave them in for 14 days.... then transplant them to 1 gallon pots... veg for 1 week and put them in to flower... you can ft a lot of 1 gallon pots into a small area... people put like 30 three week old clones in those 1 gal pots under one 1000watt HPS... 1 ouunce per plant... u do the math :) you water more often because they dry the pots up more.. which means you feed more often they eat more often... you dig?
