Lighting setup help

I have been using the parts from two old lamps to power my clf for my seedlings, today I bought two y splitters to increase my light output with more bulbs at a 45 degree angle but the lamps wont power them. When I plug it into my ceiling light it works. Is there anything I can do?

sockets are cheap at home depot.why not just buy new sockets and save yourself the headache of trying to repair salvaged equipment.with a 5*5 grow room have you considered using T5ho lights? would be cooler and more effiecient than CFLs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Bulb-8-Tube-T5-HO-Grow-Light-Hydroponic-2ft-4ft-48-Bloom-Veg-Fluorescent-Lamp-/290695215481?var=&hash=item43aec8f979:m:mbuqe0rbLlckyZfv5yD-1tw. T5HOs last 2-3 times longer than CFLs and would save on your electric bill as well. and this item is plug and play and comes with the right bulbs for seed starting and vegging.
