Lighting?

sure dude, i would just keep them a little far from the light for a week or so then light up and you should be cool. i put my seedlings under my 1000 watters with no problems.
 
Ok well i started them on CFL for a week and a half then i got a 400 watt halide and switched out and the light has been about 24 inches above them and they turned a light yellow and almost stoped growing any ideas what could be going on?
 
They have been under the halide for about 2 weeks and the plants are only like 2inches tall first 3 leaves have shown and basically stopped
 
The light may be too intense for the little ones. try either backing the light off or maybe putting them back under cfl's until they are more healthy.
 
Hey guys, Mitah J here, novice growing, trying an experiment out here and wondering if i could get some feed back. I found some seeds in one of my bags and said why not, lets try growing, bout some MG and just bought a UVB bulb, they are in the stages of leaving right now and wondering if the UVB i got is a good buy or not. Its The Desert Series Fluoresent 50 at a 20 Watt. Any thoughts?

Is the uvb the only light your using?

Here is an example of a seedling that came up under a 400w MH. The temps were way too hot and combine that with MG soil and it was a recipe for disaster. Watch your temps. I am measuring 1" above the surface and have it stable at 78 - 85.

Once I got the temps down i saw much improvement.
 
I use a cooltube and still wait a few weeks to put under the mh. At about a week I start putting them under the mh a few hours a day. same as if they were going outside.
 
Could i have the wrong metal halide bulb its a 400watt bulb from home depot its the football shaped one?
 
I am having the same problem, i am trying to see what the exact distance should be for the 400w sodium light for each stage of the plants life for the optimum growth. it seems to be too powerful and/or hot to get any closer than a foot or two.
 
you want something between 6"and 18" I keep mine at about 10" for the most part. without a tube about 18 is the best you can do.
 
You can not give a plant too much light but you can give them too much heat. You can put an air cooled hood with a HID light alot closer than you can a non cooled light. Any enclosed space is going to need exahust so while you are at it might as well go with an air cooled hood carbon filter and inline fan.

You don't have to spend alot, just search this site for examples of what other have put together.
 
thanks y'all! yeah it gets hot but i sleep in the same room (yes i sleep in my closet...) and i regulate the temp out of need for comfort. It's my first grow and they look happy. One in soil, and one in hydroponics. As i gain xp i will start upgrading my area.
 
@ blaze, i use 400mh but i like my plants at least a foot tall before i put them under it, i grow my seedlings/clones under a 2 x 55 watt cfl until they hit around that height, i feel that the mh or hps is just a bit too intense below that buddy.
@ mistah j, be careful of ur miracle gro, its not an easy soil to work with( i use it all the time myself though), it has slow release nutes in it and they can easily burn ur plants when young and its released when u water it, i never start seeds or clones in it i use a nute free seedling soil, just a cheap one from any garden store will do; add a little perlite.
