I've benefited so much here from other peoples' findings, I thought I'd share one I found.
I had my lights (3 4'x2 FL + 1 400 W HPS) on chains. My grow is in a 2x4x10 closet split in half (grow/flower) with a black visqueen (plastic sheeting) wall down the middle.
After my plants grew a bit and moving lights up and down became a real pain I decided to redesign.
Here's what I came up with.
MAKE CUSTOM ROMAN SHADE KIT 3 PULL CORD AUTO LOCK - eBay (item 110257836136 end time Jun-29-08 10:41:57 PDT)
I got rid of the chain and replaced it with 1/8" nylon line. I tied one string to each end of each light and ran it up through an eye bolt in the ceiling (I used 1/4" toggle bolts but replaced the 'bolt' with 1/4" eye bolts).
So now my lights were hanging via the string from the eyebolts. I ran the string from the 'far end' eyebolt through the other eyebolt (for the same light) nearer the middle of the closet. Now I could pull the pair of lines and move the light up and down. I just had to tie them off somewhere.
I installed a 'cord lock' referenced above in the ceiling just past the 'nearer center' eyebolt for each light (Just a bit closer to the center of the closet than the 'nearer' eyebolt and in line w/ both eyebolts for the light).
I ran both 1/8" lines through the 'cord lock'.
Now I can move my lights up and down and they 'auto-lock' in place just like venetian blinds.
I've got all 4 lights set up that way and they're *really* easy to move up and down now.
What do you think?
