Lights

just my thoughts. I use a 400w hps for 4-7 plants Would like more light. Added 3-42w cfl's as side light and still want more light. check into a 600w hps. In the end you'll use that many 50w lights to get what you want. Again just my thoughts but when you go to vent your grow area it's less hassle to vent one hot light then messing around with several.

If you want a 4x4 grow area go with a 400-600w light with a cool tube. figure your grow area then light then venting.

ouch. after i set up my light. I have about 2' form the light to the ceiling
at harvest. plants are about 4' tall. Not sure what to use in a low area. with a cooltube you could do it if you keep the plants at 4' or so. I can keep my ct about 6" off the plants.

You realise you can't just fit a hps bulb in a normal socket, right? They need a ballast to strike the arc and limit the current, and it's the ballast that costs money. It is far more cost effective to get one light setup that will light your whole area (400-600w in your case) than it is to have several ballasts and bulbs spread around, all generating heat.
If you want to run hid good ventilation is a must, they get plenty hot and will easily raise your growroom temps by 15 degrees or more if you don't have a good exhaust fan pulling hot air out from the top of the room, and a hole in the opposite side at the bottom, allowing cool air to flow in. not likely you have to get the equivalent wattage to the light HPS 400w light = HPS 400w ballast so on, its easy as pie just plug in and grow

Hey Smoked Out,

HTG Supply is a very popular website amongst people on Roll It Up. They sell Ballast/Reflector/Bulb Kits that will be perfect for you. They have kits that run anywhere from $80 bucks to $300 bucks. If your plannning on growing just one plant...then a 150w HPS system would probably work fine for you.

Another site I highly reccommend is Better Grow Hydroponics. They have quality parts at very competitive prices. I bought my stuff from this place....a 400w Lumatek Ballast / Yieldmaster Supreme Reflector / and a Hortilux Super 400w Bulb. All for around $300. It's a little expensive...but they're all quality parts from "top of the line" manufacturers with long warranties.

You might also want to look into this Ballast/Reflector/Bulb Setup from Sun System. They are a trusted company that manufactures quality and high performance parts. It's a 150w HPS or MH system that includes the Ballast, Reflector, and Bulb in one piece. It would be perfect for one or two plants. Check it out.
