For a total of about 100 bucks, I did this, I did already have the 4 bulb bath fixtures and the 2 clamp lights, but for 305w of CFL's and the floods and all the splitters was right around 100..
I vegged with only 98w of mixed 5000k and 2700k, until about a month into flower then added the rest.
Ended up with 2 3/4 oz. cured off one plant with 30 days veg.feb11pic1_zpsa5d06cc0.jpg

If you are on a budget go with cfls and listen to bakar...hes a king with growing with cfls. If you need cheaper lights, hoods, ballasts, etc. I went here for all of that:
www.horticulturesource.com
I will now only grow with Hps/Mh lights for my grows. But thats my opinion....

set up.jpgi spent 30$ on my little hood, ended up putting 1 120mm cp fan on the top for heat exhaust. put 2 y splitters in there and had 4 42watts focused on the kola, and u can see, my ghetto milk jugs. But they did help to hit different lvls of the plant.
all the lights were about 30also. its not pretty but it did the job good
my girl called it ghetto, i called it a masterpiece ;) that plant had High PH lvls most its life and still got 1.5oz dry, and my nugs were dense not fluffy. i should have gotten more like 3oz. but it was my first grow.
i had 256 cfl watts.
i can say my hood works out great for LST on current grow.

Tube_CFL.jpg these come in 6400k, 2700k, duel spectrum, 130w, 200w and 300w. Good for a nice even canopy. Lots of smaller ones though you can position around and close to the plant.

Lot of ways to do this. Bak has a great setup that he's tweaked to produce heavy yields. To achieve your goals of a clean tight setup with multiple sockets take a look at mine.

Lowe's Hardware Bathroom Fixtures $8 ea.
2 Boxes of 100 watt 5K $10 ea
Had the rest of the stuff in my garage of junk.

Thanx for the advice guys I'm still don't kno wether I'm going with hps or cfls it's a money thing I might have enough for hps if not ill go with cfl but what I'm reading all these lights will eventually cost about the same as an hps I think IM going to spend the extra for hps then after I crop outi grab some cfls for veg then just use the hps for flower but I herd I could use the hps for veg to everyone saying ill be fine using the hps for veg

Please don't take this wrong but I don't get the CFL logic I see on these sites... most of the people end up setting up such elaborate CFL setups that it ends up costing about as much as a small T5 unit or more.

I know they're good for tight spaces and getting into nooks and crannies under the canopy etc... but is it really worth having all that wiring and having to put a bunch a little bulbs everywhere to accomplish the same lumens or less for the same price or more?

Convince me and I'll build a system and post some pics.

HPS is expensive. The up front cost of the fixture is cheap, but by the time you add all the extras from the excessive heat, you have a lot of dough out there. And it's an on-going cost for electricity, bulbs, and stuff.

Stick with cfls and improve your skills. Then make the leap to HPS or LED if you want like I did.

Yes, cfls need to surround your plant if possible and about 2-3" away from plant. So, start with my fixture above and adding another one that's split, one each side would be perfect. Thing is you would only have two or three plugs and you could gang them together.

Good luck bro.

I bet your garages is cleaner then a African hospital/operation ward and I wouldn't be surprised if you actually had one of them sinks they have at hospitals to wash your hands in before you go and do work in there, are you ever sick with the flue ?

Why how often do bulbs blow on hps and ur saying that two of your fixtures will support six plants for veg and flower note also I want a big yield and there will be autos in my veg I forgot about that lol one guy sed it would only run me 25 extra a month for a 400 watt hps and about 30 for a 600 watt I just want the biggest yeild possible the electric costs per month is not big deal that's why I'm thinking on hps also I need to read more about the heat above the light or do the come with the fan input thingy above

HPS usually means you will need better ventilation and may have additional HVAC requirements. Factor that into your upfront and recurring costs and consider the end results.

If you want big yields, get rid of the auto flower strains....Ive tried them twice and they dont produce near as much as fem or reg seeds....But a word to the wise...Never plan on getting a specific amount in a grow..You can NEVER predict how much you will get in a grow...

I replace my bulbs by run-time that I record on the box. I get a couple runs from each and $50+ for quality replacements. You can run them longer but they lose their intensity and that affects your yields.

Speaking of yields, Navy is right on about not thinking about your harvests before you get through a couple grows. No way to predict because of all the moving pieces. For a newb, getting your gardening skill down is the first step to long-term success.

I also run automatics in my grow, but only to get an early harvest. My diesel has a 4 week head start on my other plants that will be in veg for another couple weeks. Otherwise, I agree with Navy, autos tend to produce on the light side because of the short veg periods.

Six plants would prefer a minimum of a 400w HID and 3X3 grow space in 3 gal containers. Some growers use smaller containers for more plants, but I think 3 gal is a minimum for bigger crops. My cfl rig is for seedlings and small plants. You would need two complete rigs for one or two plants!

You can do way less lighting than what I'm suggesting, but your plants will look like little sticks with a couple leaves on top and pop corn buds. We see a lot of that around here and it's mostly due to inadequate lighting and novice gardening skills. You will get there Ehan, just have to put some time and money into it.

Here are six of my current grow under the 400w HID. They have been cropped at 2nd node, LST'ed and 63 days from dropping to soil.
