Is it possible to get a half decent pic of one? That would help figure out what they are. :)

I dont know bout the pic as it was two days ago i flused me plants so i would need to flush it to get them back on top so i could see them as i dont think id see them otherwise,
If they aint ment to be there then they are playing fuck with my plants, with the sand just spred it off the top of the soil yeah?

I was reading this problem page that i had the pic from, it said about something called tabacco juice, its ment to kill them by puting 2 ciggeretes and soak them in water for 24hrs, then boil it for 4-5mins, let it cool and spray the the leaves. Ok the leaves but what about the soil? these things live under the soil and feeds on the roots/root hairs,
I also cant stop thinking will it do something to the plants coz i know if they get smoke blowed at them or in the same air as ciggeret smoke it gets some problems, if im right?
I got some neem oil today, will this also kill them and how do i use it?
I'd be ever so gratefull if someone could tell me fast how to kill these things as my plants are dying through it, thanks guys scunk

Quite possibly springtails, harmless and benificial but you dont discribe them well.

Sprintails are real small, skate on the water, cluster together, move quite fast over water or soil, prefer water or moist areas and most of all spring about now and again when threatened.

I get these all the time, think they love the wet peat, easy to pick them up in your soil bag. Hard to kill and no point as they are good for the soil and harmless to the roots. Generally to me if they are slow moving they are bad and if they are quick movung they are good. Dont try to kill anything before you know what it is. Peace

they fast as hell dude lol, im glad to know that are ok for the soil, how much ppms do you give a seedling king? if my mind serves me well, i recall you saying 700ppms if im right?

Yo i push 600ppm but that was in some low ass nute seedling soil. Been busy changing everything and got new grow products to try, bored of weak ass garden shops round here.

Gone totally vegan organic with the Biocanna terra plus soil and using evian to ppm the cal/mag in my water to 200ppm before ferts.

I really only ever gave my seedlings the one dose of ferts and micros just to get them off growing, after that it was a couple of plain water feeds and then i picked the ferts back up when they were bigger and needed it.

With the biocanna terra plus it can start seedlings but is a little strong, they put the ppm of the soil on the back from 800 - 1200 or somthing. Stronger soil than seedling soil. Instead of adding ferts if the seedling soil dont need it i would add a seaweed root drench just to give the trace elements a boost and kickstart the microbes in the soil.

About them white bugs, not saying they are springtail! Got to identify them first but lots of growers get them in soil and they are harmless, very few springtail species eat the roots and even if they do they dont do any noticable damage. They help the soil nutes and spread good funghi and hormones to stimulate the fungal growth. There is a big difference between your pic of some centipede type insect and spring tails. Springtails jump about like mothertruckers a lot, small and run fast for little bugs. Real small too, hard to make out detail, often you might notice there tiny little antenni on their heads.

As for seedlings i hope my soil will be ok for them for seedling, veg and flower. Gone is the seedling soil and small pots, i never seemed to be able to give them enough cal/mag in my soft water area, water ppm is like 40/50 at best, good water but needs to be brought up to 200ppm with cal/mag. I was using epsom salts but without enough calcium to balance the magnesium the seedlings were suffering, leaf twist, dry leaves, spotting etc etc and going quite blue as too much magnesium. I find epsom salts is not what my plants like much and more calcium than magnesium is very important. Dolomite lime helped but never provided very much available calcium or magnesium. We'll see how it turns out, first results are amazing. I just wana grow prefect plants really.

Identify those bugs first dude.

I am having issues with my plants that i wont go into, but yesterday i was flushing my soil, I had the pot in a dish drainer and as the water was draining into the sink i would let some run into a glass so i could see how clear it was, or wasnt, asi was looking at the water i saw these little hairs, then i noticed they were alive. when the water sat for a minute they would all go to the bottom of the glass, looking almost like they were feeding from the bottom with their "heads" down and "tails" whipping behind them. They reminded me of a very small version of a horse hair worm. I did an image search of springtails and thats not what I saw. I dont know what they were but there were A LOT of them.

They might be pot worms which are good for the soil.

Good thread. I too saw the white devils. My first sighting. They are few now but I worry.

I will compost my soil the next chance I get. Heat is bad for pests and good for organic soil because it builds humus. Even dead pests compost well.

Good thread by the way. I will now "like" your original post.
