Our dog, is mostly an indoor guy, he lays under the table while we eat, comes up and sleeps by the bed at night even though he has 'his' little place in the carpeted garage, knows not to get on the furniture unless invited (We didn't have to house train or furniture train or anything when we got him from animal shelter), he doesn't beg, and is really smart, even going to sit in front of the fridge when I ask him if he wants his night time bone.
One night, we ran out to the hospital, after shoving everybody in the car, and he went to the door from the garage to the house, nosed it open, (because the spring hadn't closed it all the way) wanting to check upstairs and see if anybody was still there with him.
The door closed behind him, locking him in the house, and when we got home 7 or 8 hours later, he had shredded the inside of the hollow core door trying to get back down to the garage, shit on the floor, and was waiting with his ears down and tail tucked when I opened the door.
I couldn't get mad at him, because I knew the feller HAD to be in a panic when he realized he had to shit, and couldn't get back out.
I knew he tried to hold it, because if it's raining or snowing out, he can hold the bathroom break for as long as 16 hours I think is his record.
