Looking for feedback on my first closet cfl grow.

Hey Guys,

Long time reader, first time grower here looking for some feedback on my (hopefully) girls.

Started 3 bagseeds about 2-3 weeks ago and...i dunno, i expected them to be taller at least by now. Im willing to chuck my anxiety up to this being my first grow, but i want to make sure. theyve been on 18/6 since seed with 4 23w 6500k cfl's (2 bulbs y split in 2 brooder hoods.) miracle grow potting mix and water appox. every other day. (soil dry beyond 2 inches from the surface.)

so what if anything should i do? or should i just sit back and let nature do it's thing?

I'm new at growing so sorry I can't be anything but encouragement. They look nice. Hope they're all females!

be patient ,
maybe show us some pictures of your full grow room and some sizes ect ,
have u got some ventilation going ? air movement ,do you know the temperature in theyre?
u might wanna pot up soon to bigger pots are the roots round the bottom of the pots yet?
(u will probablly be told miracle grow is no good ) ,anyway good luk with yer grow

I see two potential issues.
1) They look over watered.
2) Clear cups will light prune your roots.

My advice?
1) Repot into (minimum) 1 gallon pots that have drain holes (very important).
2) Only water when they need it. When you repot, before you add water pick up or weigh the thing to get an idea how heavy it is dry, then you can get on a schedule of watering them only when they actually need it.

GreatwhiteNorth is right, I'd just cut way back on the water and transplant those into pots (not clear) they'll be okay.

so i wanted to transplant these anyway so when it was suggested here, thats what i did this afternoon. someone wanted better pics of the entire set up so here are some new ones of the original plants in their new pots and some sprouts i started about the middle of last week (and a friends plant that im watching while hes out of town).

i will be adjusting the distance between the plants and lights also, theyre just like they are in the pic because i was moving them around as i rearranged the closet.

this isnt a full on enclosed system so i dont have any "ventilation" so much as just a fan on them. i live by myself so at most i put down a while towel (you might see it folded over the top shelf in the pics) and close the closet door - i didnt think there was a need for any other type of air movement control.

Y-splitters for CFL growing imo is a must, doubles your lighting. Plus if possible Co2 because cfls will grow a plant slower and drastically slower during flowering compared to hps.If smell becomes issue and you don't have carbon filter money a couple boxes of arm n hammer will help.

How close are u keeping the lights? I have found that CFL or any type of F-light must be very close -- a few inches max.

here's an update to the last update (thanks for the replies, please keep the input coming).

after transplanting, i found that i couldnt comfortably fit the new pots and everything else under those two hoods, so this morning i went out and did a little bathroom vanity DIY and i dont mind telling you, i love how it came out.

in the pics (there are both lights on and lights off because i wasnt sure if the lights were too bright to let everything come thru on my cam) you will see that the plants are pretty far from the lights, and i know this - im getting something to put them on tomorrow. for the lights themselves, it is a simple 4 light vanity i got at my local hardware store for about $14. i have 4 y splitters with 2 23w 6500k bulb per. and i put 1 23w 2700k in each of the hoods i had previously.

One last bit of advice - get the lighting as close as you can to the plants, make the most of those lumen's.

wow, the plants are like animals in the new pots, theyve grown like crazy. theyre fuller, taller and the leaves are starting to just grab for the sky...so good. and yeah, i hear ya 100% on the lights, i just didnt have anything to prop them up with last night, but i got something passable today and theyre loving the new set up.

small update, the plants are going strong for the most part. not sure whats going on with one of them so figured id come fish for some advice here.

the plant is growing very well still, but all of its new leaves are coming in almost wilted looking, i want to say its overwatered, but its not getting any more water than either of the other two plants that are the same age.

anyway, any feedback is welcome and appreciated.
