Redi you should look into these Rosin presses... they're pretty tight. The end product is awesome and there isn't any major risks. Downside is it's fairly labor intensive to do large runs.

There are some large presses you can buy. Downside is the noise from the compressor

Yeah, definitely very noisy. But I figure guy is running a decent sized room, probably can figure out a way. My buddy has a Sasquash and it's a pretty tight unit. But I'm no expert.

I think I'd go with a closed loop/CO2 and a vac oven...expensive though, maybe down the road.

If you decide to go that route, keep in mind that 5lb butane is not always easy to come by, and believe it or not the butane picks up some trace residue from the product. Recently after doing many runs, we had bud run completely ruined by what we can only guess was the trace picked up by the butane. What should have been liquid gold came out tar.

I have a friend of a friend who recently invested like 100 grand in that kind of unit. I haven't seen any product from it but I'm really interested to try it. How do the terps come out? For me, the best extraction tech will be the one that keeps the most terps. So far it's been rosin in that respect.

From what Ive read fractal distillation produces a very terpy product

Honestly, I cant say which type of extractor is best. I've never made rosin before...looks simple enough but I would need to do lots of homework before I decided which way to go.

IMO the best quality I've smoked is Rosin made from quality bud. My Sugar Punch yields around 23% FWIW. That's not even my best cut which has yet to be run through it. And it's actually more because some definitely is left on the bag and bud. You will get more out of a repress. Not a tonne more, lower quality but not a lot. Or you can use them in edibles - you can stick a tonne of bags in a small space and make pretty potent edibles this way.
Overall right now I'm thinking about the same and I'm leaning towards a Rosin press. The cost is by far the most reasonable and the quality is awesome. I think pure butane shatters might be higher % thc but they're always lower in terps IME. I think they yield a little more typically as well. You can also process far more at once with less man hours. Butane I think starts to become the way to go on a larger scale but for my boutique purposes Rosin seems to fit.

A large % of pharmaceuticals based on plants are extracted with butane. It's all a matter of doing it properly and as safely as possible. Freestyling it in your basement is dumb though. If I did it I'd have a dedicated room with serious exhaust rated for explosive products (lab equipment) and with spark free outlets and spark free everything... basically built to lab standard. To me it's a huge investment, that doesn't even take into account the equipment to do it properly. But it does make sense on a large scale. The amount of man hours to make Rosin is much higher. One guy with the right equipment can process 100lbs with butane in a day or two. That wouldn't happen with a rosin press.
