Lost another grow attempt to damping off.

Well, grow attempt #2 is down the drain due to damping off.

I only watered them twice in a week, about 3 days apart, both times barely an ounce of water, and both my seedlings died due to getting the black ring around the stem. Both times I lifted the cups and they felt very light, but I guess the coco still holds moisture below the surface.

Going to give it one more go with some Master Kush this time and this time not let any fucking water touch the damn stems and water around the edge of the cups... this time I mixed in a shit load more Pearlite into the Coco to see if that helps.

I'd do a few soil grows then once comfortable move to the more exotic methods, a least I'd have weed, then again I'm not you! ....lol

hmmm that sounds odd to me.. I use coco and have used soil..The only time I ever experienced that was with soil...Oh and when i very first started growing I for some reason thought seeds were to be germintated under a dome which is bad news.

perlite should help, but, if your first round died from damping off you need to sterilize the container before replanting in it. damping off can be caused by a fungus that thrives in cool damp conditions.

Its not the watering or the coco causing this , its the rh , what is it, don't use domes with seedlings, don't spray , use fans 24/7 and somehow drop the rh.

Coco is meant for hydroponics... You really need to know what you're doing, you provide absolutely everything nutrient wise it needs the whole time its growing ... I agree with growing in soil for a while befit trying Coco, hydro is not forgiving at all

RH is 33% give or take.

Temps are around 73F in the tent with the lights on. I was running 24/7 light. Blackstar and CFLs, and the Blackstar has UV so I thought that would help against fungus.

It has to be over watering. It's the only thing I can think of. Tent is in the basement and there's a desk fan in the tent blowing 24/7. I'll clean the tent when the new ones crack and I plant them. I sterilized the party cups and mixed up a new batch of coco and pearlite so the cups will sit for 24-48 hours so they're not damp when the seeds go in.

What nutrients are you using? You should be using nutrients meant for hydroponics in coco, every time you water.

GH Flora series. Dude, only got to use nutes once out of two grow attempts. Maybe I should mix up some like 1/4 strength nutes and water the coco since it's nuteless, or would that burn the sprouts?

That should work. Once it sprouts, always have some nutes in the water with hydro. I use DWC so I'm not sure what ppm you should water with. The nutrients make it so the plant can handle water.

I feel your pain. I just recently lost 11 plants to damping off and only one survived so hopefully female. I didnt water much either although i did mist every so often so i guess that was my downfall.

I mean prior to putting the beans in the coco. Should I "pre-charge" the coco with low strength mix of nutes or wait for first leaves to start feeding?

I've only grown in soil, but, from what I've read about other people's experiences with growing in coco (non-hydro), I would suggest to just ditch the coco and buy a bag of dirt.

Lots of folks have issues using coco with seedlings. I say get some seed starter mix and use that until they grow a bit and can handle the coco. I know one stubborn dude here that killed 45 seedlings before he finally switched to seed mix.
