Low NPK in most nutrients?

Is it just me, or are most of the nutes out there really skimpy on npk ratios? I was looking into getting some GH or Dyna-gro but they all seem weak. That just means you have to add more right? I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive that provides more.

depending on your nutrient delivery system and strain/environment and medium or substrate, a little goes a long way, and other methods a lot goes the same way

What do you mean '..skimpy on npk ratios'? How can a ratio be 'skimpy' unless you're comparing two products, one being more desirable than the next? What is GH 'skimpy' compared to?

DG is highly concentrated but I have a feeling you should cut your teeth on something else until you do some more reading.

skimpy meaning 2-5-6 or 0-5-4. I just mean that seems weaker than some stuff i've seen at like 20-20-20. Is it that its just more concentrated?

hey TheDarkDefender , first of all and no disrespect intended, your post made me laugh....I used GH and recently got some dyna gro, personally fed my plants with it too..they re very highly concentrated if your not being careful you can burn your plant with small dose very easy. as for you, I suggest you start to test with your plants, you will see the difference and understand the fertilizer works. If you wanna buy only 20-20-20 if your talk about jacks classic, they re good too and good price as well. Happy growing and Peace.

Gotcha. 20-20-20 is a dry fertilizer and they're usually more concentrated becasue they don't include water. Fertilizer percentages are measured by weight. The best thing to do whether you're using liquid or dry plant food is get a TDS meter. Evenly mix the nutrients in a gallon of water and take a TDS reading. Liquid or dry, your meter will tell you how much food you're giving your plants.

As Izocc mentioned, DynaGro is highly concentrated. It doesn't take much to reach a desired ppm so even if you're in soil, I highly recommend a TDS meter so there are no surprises if/when something goes wrong.

I do have a TDS meter. I understand the basics , its just the numbers that are slightly confusing. I have some powder stuff that is 20-10-10, would I need to use more of say 5-5-5 to achieve those same results? Or no, because the wet nutes are already mixed, therefore stronger/just as strong? So when a bottle says 2-5-9 does that mean thats what is in each feeding dose? And if I doubled that dose, would it be 4-10-18?....just as an example. Oh also, is dyna-gro something you guys would def. recommend? I'm thinking its either that or GH.

TheDarkDefender, i found out and learned from Homebrewer and Uncle Ben...maybe you will find the more information at HomeBrewer s link in his signature and click on the link....before i came here I always use GH series...till here, they mentioned dyna gro stuff...i decided to research...found out that dyna gro have all the trace elemets than GH and more save money because dyna gro have high conceration so thats why you only need 2.5 ml per gallon opposite GH three part like together mayb 8.5 ml per gallon its really depend on what you re using soil or hydro...I did asked this guy Homebrewer...he recommended me use 7-9-5 Grow and base nute will be Bloom...and now my lady plant is into 2 weeks of flower, now i use bloom more and grow as base nutes. it seems incredible good and more healthy way...i havent encounter any defs, its very smooth ride for me...Hopefully this will help you to make a best decision to buy the right fertilizer for your plants. Happy growing and peace

I'd recommend reading Uncle Ben's posts, he has a lot of no-nonsense growing advice and while it may take a while to get through his 100+ page threads, there's lots of good info and you'll be a better grower on the other side.

Dynagro is one of the most concentrated formulas on the market! The bloom formula has the most P and K in it than ANY other formula out there!

GH is not even in the same ball park as Dynagro from our testing results...FYI

yeah, liquid formulas have a lower NPK number because its diluted with water, but 'easier to use' I believe is why they are popular.
Dry formulas are mostly not suited towards hydroponics, and are meant for commercial field agriculture.
