Low wattage HPS, heat and micro grows...

Yo fellow gardeners!

I have a question for ppl with experience using HPS bulbs...

I plan on geting a HPS for flowering for a small space: (1 x 1 ft) 2 ft high. Today I use CFLs.

I was thinking about a 70 WATT HPS....but the price is about the same of a 150 watt.

My question is: is there a HUGE diference in the heat generated between a 70 and a 150 watt?

Is the 150 watt one generating more than 2x the heat generate by the 70 watt?

It should be, since the wattage basically doubles and the bulbs generate a certain amount of lumens + heat PER WATT.

I have good venting and exhaust, but unsure about the temp!

70 or 150 HPS?

Peace!,

get a 150 watt cfl bulb, you can get them with fitting from a grow shop for £30 or £40 with reflector, cheaper on ebay

i would think that in 2 cubic feet of area any light is going to be a heat issue, without any ventilation,... why such a small space? how can you flower a plant in a 2 ft high space?

Yo Steve, I only flower dwarf strains, 20 Inch high max with flowers. Just for personal use, I dont have space in my ap. for bigger projects.

I use CFLs, and they are OK, I have very good ventilation for the space, with 2 air intakes and 1 exhaust - It never gets hot with CFL.

I was wondering if even a 70 or 150W HPS would cause problems, I don't know how hot they really are (never used them). As I have good ventilation for such a small space, I would like to try them.... but am asking before going and buying the bulbs!

You might be able to get away with a 150 in that space with a cooltube. They are easy to make yourself with a few items from walmart. I'm running 2 150's in a 30"w 30"h 20"l box and my temps are around 85F atm with a busted AC. I think you can do it.
