LST - no clue

Hey yall im starting my first indoor grow soon, and its in a bit of a limited space. Im gonna try n work with this by topping to get four colas and let it grow a bit wide - HOWEVER - i've heard a lot about LST and that it helps reduce plant height or sumthin.
can anyone tell me what exactly LST is? or maybe a thread where i can read up?

ive been wonderin about that too actually, i thought it was just a bunch of topping though by the pics id seen, but now im guessing its not? whats the difference? and what is the signifigance of +rep?
