I just stick the wire hook in the dirt to hold the limb in place.

Wow. I seriously can't think of worse advice to give without telling people THIS IS CALLED SUPERCROPPING. It's not for beginners or for autoflowers, and needs to be done at the correct time, age etc... be very careful and try it on a couple test plants first. Then find a method that works, a bend or break in the incorrect spot and your plants will suffer.
SUPERCROPPING - A high stress training technique that should be performed with extreme caution.

Its not for autos or over enthusiastic people like newbs il give you that however even if you snap a branch off you should be able to duc tape it back on providing u catch it early enough ime case any new growers go over the top and read this its worth bearing that in mind bending and tying down without pinching or making knuckles is how you should start out till u got a feel for that once u got that down then you can experiment more with higher levels of training plants

It can be done with autos, I’ve had a couple autos that exploded during the stretch. Had to supercrop to move main away from light. But most auto indicas will need none. Only high sati dom autos.
 
I have a whole bunch of scrap #12 and #14 romex. I just cut a chunk and pull the wires out and cut as I need them. Right to the top of the pot, like a caveman
