Is there a rule uf thumb for the appropriate amount of lumens per ftsq.

3,000/sqft for veg

5,000/sqft for flower

These are rough minimums.

These are good estimates for HID lighting only, of course -- not CFL's or anything else. To be clear.

I hear now that with the LEDs it might not be about lumens,... some of the light are coming with 130Watt of actual draw and less than 2500lumens... the newer model ... no grow journals with them yet but apparently it's more about wavelength. so yeah what Wet says apply to HIDs ... as for LEDs, nobody knows yet..

True, but your numbers for CFL would not be the same as for HID. To put another way, you would need more lumens/sqft for CFL to achieve the same results. Get it?
