Lumens

I was wondering if someone could explain to me a little more about how lights give off lumens. Is it a constant out pouring of lumens for a given area? Does it matter how many plants are under X number of lights? For instance if you have 6 lights giving off 10,000 lumens, does it matter how many plants are underneath those lights? Will all of the plants theorectically recieve equal light/lumen?

yea it does cuz ur not gonna plant more than 4-5 plants under that and even then ur looking to upgrade try and find a metal hallide light set or a good t5 because they give out more lumens

Ok, well i actually have 9 plants anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 weeks old under 8 lights puttign out 19,000 lumens. Its in an area 3'x2'x1', your thoughts?

19000 lumens is good enough to grow ur plants and if its ur first grow then yea its good enough but if u have extra money the more light the better i jus ordered 2 mh lamps each one outputs 36000 lumens so im jus gonna use one cuz i dont have a big growspace either but me and my buddy/roommate are gonna grow in our closets so we can put 1 in each room

Damn, that's a lot of lumens. So basically because of what you just said, i just added another 2600 lumens to my space. So now i'm up to 21400. I have ot wear sunglasses ot look in there.

Yea, i've noticed that from the beginning. What's better for the plants 18/6 cycle right now in the veg. state or 24/day?

i think its more of a wattage issue that lumens with artificial light? am i wrong? the sun at whatever its output of lumens can grow all the plants in the world.

I've read the sun puts out 20,000 lumens per square foot, that an important ratio is lumens per square foot, and that for an in door grow 7,000 to 10000 per square foot is where you want to be for average sized plants.

huh thats def not true 10000 lumens is not enough to flower...maybe 1 or 2 plants and it wont be that great...get a 400 watt hps that should do

10,000 lumens per sqft is what the sun puts out on a sunny summer day. Anything over 4000 per sqft and your buds will be fine. but the more the merrier. 400w hps is about what 50,000 lumens thats good for about 3x3 area posibly 4x4.

So much mis info on here be careful who you listen to.

From the research and what not i've done its suggested that each plant have 7k-10k lumens per plant. 10 being the ideal amount and 7 being the minimal (for people that like to go by lumens that is) But then again it dont matter how many lumens you have if your light is high away from the plants. SMB says every 12'' you keep your light from your plants your light loses half its lumens. "The more lumens the bigger the buds" remember that :D

Ok, sounds good. There's a lot of differing opinions on this. SOmeone the other day tried to tell me wattage was more important

sun is 10000 in direct sun at high noon and changes all day you need 5-7000 and cfl's dont add up 2+2=2 and 2 not 4 read this/............. the grow faq will tel you 3000 minimum but thats bullshit
