I hear all around that miracle grow is not good at all for the plants. I was wondering if it's okay to use this soil mix or not.

It will grow a a small grow decently. The "moisture control" aspect of the soil is interesting, but the hard. time-realese fertilizer is the killer of the MG soil. I have kept mothers on this soil with good results, but the nute blend is going to be off if you are looking for "perfect" flowering nutrition. If you are starting out and want to use it, go ahead. It will grow a crop for you. But being in Chicagoland, you have acces to better soils. The plants are only as good as their soil(nutes), light, and air.
