Well there's something else going on here because my power supply got so hot I had to unplug it. I'm done with this damn thing. Next thing you know it's going to burn down my house.

Coming from a long history of fixing and administering macs and PC's for the better part of the last 20 years, Apple has done nothing but try and increase their profits by creating everything closed and proprietary and in turn charge more to fix it. It was almost the death of them back in the 90's. They wised up and switched to an Intel based architecture that allows the usage of any operating system that runs on an x86 platform running standard hardware and made them easy to upgrade and maintain after the warranty expires.

Now they switched again and have gone more and more proprietary again and you are seeing people taking another step back. Lose a hard drive and out of warranty? Yeah you need a special harddrive from apple that costs 3-4x as much with a special connector. Same harddrives that are in every PC, they just had the manufacturer add a heat sensor and changed the SATA connector standard...thanks Apple...Oh did I mention to replace a hard drive out of the newest generation imac's you have to completely remove the screen out of it and reseal it?

And dear god do not get me started on how impossible it is to troubleshoot a mac with issues as you stare at the spinny pinwheel of doom with 0 chance of getting any sort of error messages anywhere...

Oh man and the bullshit appstore they decided to implement...no more software for sale in retail locations...only download...fuck the old people who love their easy to use mac...if they want software let it sit for a few days on their dialup to download it...oh and the appstore doesn't allow for tax exempt purchases...so fuck schools/governments/non profits...UNLESS you fight them for a few months into refunding the tax...and yes it takes a few months of banter back and forth via email and resubmitting documents repeatedly to get them to refund it...

Oh and if you are still running 10.5 you can no longer go out and buy an upgrade to the latest OS(10.7/Lion ATM)...you can "find" places that still have 10.6 for sale on a DVD...but you pay full price for it...THEN you do an online ugprade to Lion...and pay more...

LOL silly Apple...tricks are for kids ;)

That's where I'm at right now. I'm just going to write it off as a loss and stick to pc's.

Your issue is probably just some sort of OS software issue...if you've got a copy of your OS DVD handy pop it in and hold down C to boot off that disk and just reinstall OSX :)

...poor kuroi, that was her suggestion, and was likely the right one

...before you wipe it, you might be able to access the drive and make a copy of your schtuff.

My G5 motivates me. I love the interface. My Adobe master suite, iMovie and Final Cut work like a dream. While I grew up with PCs and daddy getting me all the software as a computer tech, my mac makes me want to do something creative every day. I'm playing with Front Row and the remote ^^ Every computer should have a remote, though I'm sure there's some way of using any bluetooth device, like how you can use a wiimote with an iphone for kicks.

...it's a compartmental dream :) And, sadly, no more remotes - you have to pay for them now. I kinda wish macs would have stayed in the lab. I too used to work on a pc, like 20 years ago. It did the trick, but when you start getting into serious design or production, not so much. Multiple programs (I hate the word "apps") running on a pc? Not with CS5 or anything else (I would guess). Try a 3-5 gig file in illustrator on a pc

My god, I used to hate loading ANYTHING big on a pc. I'd just launch a resource-hogging piece of software ike the suite and the whole thing would lock up. I'd rather one or two spinning wheels/beach balls rather than constant BSODs any day. If my Mac, ever crashes, it's because I've fucked with it or had 50 programs or windows running at once. In which case, just restart it. There is never that blind panic I used to have when an error message came up on windows. The only major worries are permissions errors and touching system files you shouldn't have.

Mac: "PANIC! We are hanging here..."

Me: "Lol. That's nice." Off to the Apple store we go. They were nice enough to waive the service charge and give me as shiny new iPhone too. I didn't even buy the iPhone from them, it was free on contract! Such nice people.

If my pc ever crashes it's because i've fucked with it. And having 50 windows or programs open at once shouldn't crash a computer :D Not sure what you guys do with your gear to have such awful results. One would have thought if PC's did nothing but crash they wouldn't be the market leader. Strange ;) And what's with all this restarting of computers? No need for that with windows.

There's some truth to this, but crack is cheap too so... :)
