Makeing clones while stems is still attched to plant

hello fellow growers. I am completed my first grow I did Cream Carmel Auto that made over 6 grams of autosmoke each, I am pleased to say (rep if you like this) my question is with my next auto that I sprout can I make a cut in the stem snd put root powder in the cut so the cutting roots on the plant? so that if the cut doesn't root I still have the budsite left on the plant?-no waste

It sounds to me like what you're talking about is called air layering. Do a search on that.

If you air layer and it doesn't root or if it dry out the site will die..just keep a mother plant ...air layering is used with plants that are harder to clone
