male vs. female (grow speed)

I have about 16 plants from seed growing right now and I just read in a thread that someone was led to believe that male plants shoot up faster than female plants. Of these plants I have, about half a dozen of them exhibit a remarkedly longer stems than the other ones and need extra help with little stakes to keep them from drooping over. These where just a few random headie seeds I had gathered over the past few months and they had all been germinated and put in soil at the same time.

my question: do male and female planted exhibit different rates of growth like this?

Male plants have a rapid growth spurt just before they show their sex. (usually but not always)
Last summer I thought for sure one of mine was male BUT it wasn't. They do tend to have more space between their axles and nodes than females do.
Females tend to be more tense and bushy than males BUT always. Its good to have this general rule of thumb but it isn't always an accurate guesstimate. lol

A picture would help a lot.
If you have to support your plants then they probably aren't doing good and are not getting enough light.


Its difficult to say without seeing pics first.
