Males- Keep 'Em or Lose 'Em?

I think this will be a topic a lot of people comment on. First off the reason I am posting this in Indoor growing is because that's all I do and have read about so somethings I may say in regards to "bagging" males may not be able to be used outside.

Ok so I've read a lot of articles all over the web on growing most of them being indoor growing. One thing I have noticed is that there seems to be a 50/50 practice when it comes to the males. SOME say to keep them. SOME say to get rid of them...

This post is basically to get everyones comments about Male plants if to keep them or loose them I will personally keep them BUT control what females they pollunate.

Ok, So I can see why some people say GET RID OF THE MALES!!! Because no one really wants to buy a bag that is full of seeds from you. (unless you're collecting seeds to grow like me)... So because of this a lot of people say to kill the males...

On the other hand I have heard a lot of people keeping the males and just deseeding the weed before selling. Now to me that's a lot of work... I HAVE read one article that talked about bagging the males... As in keep the males alive and place a small plastic bag around the males when they are ready to "blow their load" (ha). This way you can Choose which females to pollinate. This to me sounds like a very good idea...

Let's say you have 8 plants total 6 female and 2 male... I would allow one MAYBE 2 females to be pollunated. And the weed/seeds I get off that plant could be for my own personal use then after I'm stoned beyond belief I could just plant the seeds... So in the "Bagging" method you have 2 MALE 2 pollunated Females and 4 non Pollunated females (no seeds/ Selling weed) and I could sell the seeded weed (after deseeding) to some close friends or something...


SO what is everyones opinion about Keeping Or Killing Males? Has anyone heard of the Bag Method??? Or could this just be something my stoned out mind came up with and didn't actually see in an article.. I personally think it could work REALLY well...

Yes you can store make pollen in a bag, if you leave that male near your fems they will all get pollenated anyway. If you really want to breed, you'll have to have a very controlled enviorment for the male, so it doesnt pollenate all your females, and in a close proximity, all it takes is 1 little pollen sack.

how many seeds u want?? i think 1 plant will get u quite a few seeds but w/e. de-seeding weed is a bitch i did it while watching tv and it felt like forever.maybe cuz i was high but w/e

The reason for not pollenating females goes way beyond not wanted seeds in your stuff. You will get more yield, and potentcy, if your females are not pollenated. because the plant keeps focusing it's energy on the buds, and not the seeds.

Geez, what a confused post, and you've supposedly done a lot of reading about this? What is it that you want to do? Do you want to grow some good smoke, or start up a breeding farm? Do you understand the concept of Sinsemilla? Clearly not from what you've written.

Get your befuddled head into gear and decide what it is you want to do. If you want to grow the best bud you can, then keep the males as far away from your females as possible once you've ascertained which ones are male and which ones are female and destroy the males as soon as possible.

If you want to produce just a few seeds for future growing then remove the males as soon as you've identified them and keep them in a separate area, as soon as their pollen sacks open, take some pollen and fertilise a few flowers on the female plant so these flowers will produce seeds but will not affect the rest of the female plant, then destroy all the male plants.

If you want to produce a truly fucked up harvest carry on as you're doing.

baby is right. You can pollinate certain buds using a paintbrush and the pollen you collect. Why you want to do this.... I dunno. Clone your women! Guaranteed female offspring. I have some cloning tips somewhere here in the forum. Ill try to find them and get them to you.

Kill the males.. all of them! Just keep cloning your females.. why would you want any males in your garden?? They could pollinate the females and ruin your entire crop!

if you insist on making seeds, do selective pollination by taking a cutting from a male, take a plastic cup with a hole cut in it, place the cutting in, with the end sticking out the end, than place the cup inside another cup with water in it....when the pollens ready, it'll shoot its load into the bottom of the 1st cup, grab your q-tip and pollenate a few buds at the bottom of the plant.

Unless you want to cross-breed and make some new strains you should top and clone to get perpetual harvest going.

Well some of you understood what I said... and the majority did not... It however was clearly written. NEVER once did I say I was asking this for my own crop. I was just remarking because to me when I was reading it seemed to be a hated debate between article authors on weather or not to keep the males....

I am already well aware of what I will be doing and all that goes with it and have KILLER bud.

As I said never once was this about me doing any of this. In fact I said twice I believe that this was just a topic starter to see how other people grow from around the world and NOT for personal knowledge....

Now if you think THIS post was confusing... Ya need help guys.

OK so to now, back to the main question that was just a mere topic starter in interest of what others do... I'll word it a little easier...

Males aren't good for a stinkin thing. Kick them to the curb. Oh, male marijuana plants yeah those are bad too.

Like you said before "noone wants to buy a bag of seed". So then why keep the males around? If you keep males around sooner or later you will regret it! Why not just clone your females then you won't see any seed only 100% sensimilla?

I hope you got rid of that 60w incandescent that you plan on growing 8 plants under..

The 60W was just for the first few days/ Germination... There's now 800W Flors on them.

To future explain what I am doing. I am aware the keeping the males are not really all that great. However I still know that people DO still keep the males and I was interested in who still does....

Now the way I do it I have 2 seperate grow rooms now. What I plan on doin once this crop is ready. I will take ONE male with 2 females put them by their selves in a second grow room and that one MALE will do it's thing for the to women... Now with the weed from THAT male and those two women would be my own personal stash... and then use the seeds for the next crop.... Then you still have your controled batch 100% female for that killer sale bud.

I HOPE this makes sense to you people... Oh and I know someone will say well why dont you just store the pollin then brush it on... Because even though it's my personal stash I still want good bud and I personally feel that if the plants (females) are pollinated naturally by the males it will be better bud and seeds. creative management is the drug world... DUH lol sorry I'm stoned as is.

Okay even if you have 2 room the pollen can still get on your clothing and it will transfer between rooms and ruin your hole crops! You say you will smoke the weed from the pollenated crop, now why would you wanna smoke shit? This doesn't make much sense to me because you can just clone, then you have all females(sensimilla) bud NOT bullshit.. your playin with fire..

I dont think I could clone without fucking up and I dont wanna waste weed. I'd shoot myself.... So to me it's easier I could change my clothes and shower between rooms it's just a more sure way for me to do it.

cloning is easy.. you dont have to shower and change your clothing when you go from 1 room to another. You can also fill BOTH ROOMS WITH ALL FEMALES = waymore bud and your garanteed 100% sensimilla.. no seed.. and thats whay eveyone wants!

Where's a good place to learn about cloning then?
