KITCHENER — Was Alexander Pomper feeling overly confident or did he just forget he had marijuana in his knapsack when he walked into a Kitchener courtroom on Dec. 11?
Pomper didn’t offer an explanation Monday when he pleaded guilty to drug possession. The 19-year-old was given a conditional discharge.
Court heard Pomper was in court to support a friend that day. A special constable asked to search his knapsack and found six grams of marijuana and a digital scale.
Pomper lives at home, attends school and works part-time.
He wrote the judge a letter, saying he’s quit drugs and realizes how dangerous they can be.
They can “cause you to see things that are not there,’’ have heart attacks or even die, he said in the letter. “I regret ever trying … drugs in my life.’’
“I don’t know what you were thinking, if at all,’’ said Justice Gary Hearn. “Maybe it was an oversight.’’
The judge put him on probation for nine months and ordered him to perform 25 hours of community service.
“Yes, sir,’’ Pomper replied.

I'd say that too if I was in front of a judge
