Marijuana Legalization in Canada: Are we really making any progress?

Ok first off I'll make it clear that I'm not exactly savvy with all the marijuana laws here in Canada.

"Canada will eb the first country in North America to legalize marijuana"

This is something I hear very often. For that to be true, we would have to be making many frequent advances in our laws regarding marijuana. However when I visit wikipedia's page for that topic, I don't really see a lot going on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_legalization_in_Canada

Really, the most recent thing announced on that page is actually a step away from legalizing it. Everything else seems to be just slight improvements to the medicinal marijuana laws, which is not very useful to taking down recreational marijuana laws.

The article says that we have a "De Facto" with Marijuana, it's socially acceptable, the public approve. Well the Public does not = The Police, so not very helpful there right now. According to several polls, the majority of Canadians approve of marijuana legalization, isn't that grounds enough for some actual governemnt involvement on the issue?

According to Wikipedia, the Green Party, the NDP, and the liberals all want marijuana to be legalized. I must be missing something here, because that seems to be almost everybody in terms of major political parties.

So yeah, legalization of Marijuana, a fairly harmless drug, especially in comparison to tobacco and alcohol, is essentially supported by almost every political party and the majority of Canadian citizens. Yet I'm just not seeing anything being done.

What the FUCK is going on out there? Is it because Harper and the conservatives have control at the federal level?

Probably Canada and our (US) DEA are working together on this issue, against the will of the common citizen.SHIT,our good ol DOJ is trying to extradite Marc Emery for selling Cannabis seeds across the border, from Vancover, he has never been in the US,but our stupid fucking government wants to put his ass away for the rest of his life.

Yeah I read about that, there was something about Emery serving 5 years in Canadian Prison and then 5 years in US Prison. Though I also remember hearing that the Canadian Government isn't planning on supporting it.

We almost had it decriminalized until the dea came to canada back in 03. Right now that fucktard harper is only making the laws worst. Bill c-15 is fucking horseshit, 6 months minimum for growing a single plant!

six months for a single plant is unbelievable,
Legalization of Marijuana in Canada would of brought us out of the depression,
The economy is downhill yet again ...
Why make the same mistake twice and not legalize marijuana?
Good job harper

this is very negative but id never go to jail for a few plants id rather kill the cop and go to jail for that and send them a message, is it really worth risking cops lives for marijuana.

Did you really just fucking say that? Thats one of the most selfish and plain dumbest things I've ever heard. Do you think murdering a cop is going to make them lighten up laws? No its going to fuel the propaganda train.
